Nokia is alive and doing well, for an old-timer that’s enough for now
Nokia was a consumer favorite, and the nostalgia factor has helped in its revival. However, if it wants to be a more significant player, it needs to be much more than that

Call it the nostalgia factor or whatever you want, but Nokia is slowly gaining back its pace. HMD Global, the Finnish company which manages the Nokia smartphone brand now, had shipped a whopping 4.15 million handsets in the fourth quarter of 2017 says Counterpoint Research.
HMD Global shipped 4.15 million Nokia handsets in the fourth quarter of 2017 managing to capture 1% global market share.
There are several reasons why this is good news. First, the brand was a consumer favorite. It was one of the three giants, which started this entire personal mobile movement.
Nokia, Motorola, and Blackberry this is what we knew, and sadly none of them are in the tech forefront anymore.
But the goodwill Nokia has earned over the years has stayed with it through thick and thin. Now, despite the fact that Nokia is far away from its roots and the brand name is in the hands of a different company it still has its loyalists.

The Nokia brand got revived just a year ago and the fact that it is yet to have a full year of global presence doesn’t mar this small slice of victory. 8.5 million Nokia phones have been shipped after being internationally re-launched in the 2017 Mobile World Congress.
However, there are specific factors which analysts point out may dampen sales during this year. The nostalgia factor which has been a significant component driving up sales might slowly ebb away.

Also Chinese companies such as OPPO, Xiaomi are gradually increasing their grasp, and Nokia might fall a casualty to their growth.
However, with several significant releases expected from the Nokia stable in the 2018 Barcelona Mobile World Congress which includes its flagship device Nokia 9, Nokia 7 plus and the 4G version of Nokia 3310, the firm might be able to keep this momentum.
Nokia’s current position is a far cry from what the brand was in its heydays but it has come back from the tech death, and it would be heartbreaking to see it fall yet again.
