Kashmiri students arrested after beef rumours at Rajasthan university

“They were questioned about their role in bringing the meat to the hostel and cooking it,” Gangrar station house officer Labhu Ram Bishnoi said, adding that a veterinary medical board was then formed to test samples of meat collected from the hostel.

“But the board concluded that it was not beef. We also found during an investigation that they had bought 300 grams of some other meat from a local shop,” he said.

University PRO Harish Gurnani said the whole episode arose from rivalry between two groups of students at the institution. “We are counselling both the groups, and have formed a probe committee to look into the incident,” he told HT.

Cows are viewed as spiritual in west indian states due to their cultural influences .ie it is treated as a protected animal .


Beef of all kinds are banned in 8 /29 indian states .

Buffalo/bull beef is legal in rest of India . Cow beef is legal in north east and Kerala .

It is right and proper that people run their own societies according to their own values.

Erm these kids were beaten up because there was a suspicion that they were eating beef. They broke no law or value of the country as the university confirmed. Rather what happened was thuggish mob rule, like in Gojra in 2009 or Dadri last year. No civilized society touches accused individuals (other than arrest by the police till the hearing) prior to their guilt having been proven. But South Asians are far from civilized as they repeatedly prove.
