What's new

NLC and FWO would be asked to construct Gujar Khan to Jhelum railway track: Sheikh Rasheed

Didn't FWO built the shitty karachi-hyderabad motorway or was it NLC ???
But i think that the process should be open and fair so that other private companies could have the chance to also develop..
It was and still is FWO because it's still not completed.

Sheikh Rasheed also invited private companies to build railway stations, Railway Hospitals & Dispensaries, along with a 5000-home housing project. Only the track which has to go through a tunnel will be handed over to NLC & FWO since they're well experienced from FATA/KP rebuilding projects.
I never said awarding contract to NLC / FWO is wrong decision, but I questioned validity of the process. In all developed countries, there is a transparent bidding process. Even in BRT Project which was initiated by previous KPK government, all contracts were given after open bidding process.
It seems Sheikh Sahib is afraid of corruption by other companies and in fear awarding contracts to part military, part government companies. This is not the way to do it

That's what I said. It's the process on which contracts are awarded that needs reform in Pakistan or you will remain in Purana Pakistan

Agreed 100% and that is the point I am trying to make as well. FWO is stretched beyond their capabilities.

They are working on Jaglot-Skardu road which is very important and because of it's strategic location only they can provide security.

They are also working on Lahore Sialkot motorway, Swat motorway, Lowari Tunnel, Hyderabad-Karachi motorway, several DHA projects and they have the job of seasonal clearing up of roads.

Additionally, there was an approval of 82 billion rupees for boring of Shounter Tunnel that will link AJK with GB and will be executed by FWO.

They have too much on plate already.

Oh that's some serious overkill. Pakistan should have more engineering companies competing for these projects to deliver better cost management and quality. As you put the situation I am not so optimistic about future of free enterprise in Pakistan

fwo work quality is not good.most of roads constructed by them not last for long.bidding should be made while getting low cost contract with better quality

I don't get it when you have FWO & NLC in the country then why are contracts given to foreign construction companies? Makes no sense! Obviously corruption requires foreign tenders.

After seeing karachi-hyderabad motorway their poor construction can clearly be seen.
it is not due to fact they not have capability but due to reason they are involved in corruption and no one can question them because they are under army control.either they are made accountable or otherwise if they could not be made accountable the work should be given to honest good company after transparent bidding.it is ik mistake that he is depending on musharaf cabinet instead of bringing true honest pti candidates on mainstream

LOL. Its standard procedure in functioning countries to have open competition when awarding government contracts to ensure merit and quality. Its only in corrupt countries such established rules and regulations are not followed.

Obviously its a mistake. We need merit and accountability in every department. Or Pakistan won't progress.

What kind of Naya Pakistan newly appointed Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed is making? Where is the proper tender process on merit as promised by Imran Khan? How is this any different than Purana Pakistan where tenders were issued on favoritism without due process?

@BHarwana @Imran Khan @war&peace @Zibago @Indus Pakistan @Imad.Khan
if its govt owned entities than tender is not necessary in my opinion..both NLC and FWO are govt owned companies

in my opinion max contract should be given to local companies and strict bidding in international contractors

but i think open tender is better even in local companies as it does reduce incompetence

My point exactly. When you have such entities and you need to keep jobs in the country and capital its best to work with local authorities.

I agree there is a social side of the story too. But then you have to compromise on quality and expense as government companies cannot always deliver as good as private ones
