ISLAMABAD (APP) – Minister for Railway Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Monday expressed his firm resolve to make Pakistan Railways self sufficient by December 30, this year by overcoming its whooping Rs 37 billion annual deficit.

Talking to media, he said work had already been started to minimize the railways deficit. A meeting of railway high officials has been summoned in Lahore on coming Saturday to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for rehabilitation of Pakistan Railways.

Talking about railway’s modernisation he said, the passengers of second and third class carriages would be provided air conditioning facility, while modern escalators would be installed at the stations to facilitate elder passengers and special persons.

Lahore-Rawalpindi railway track would be dualised under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the travelling time between Lahore and Rawalpindi would be reduced to two and a half hours.

The length of Kalowal to Jhelum railway track would be reduced from existing 65 km to only 15 km by eliminating unnecessary curves. National Logistic Cell and (NLC) and Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) would be asked to construct Gujar Khan to Jhelum railway track, he added.

He said, as many as 32 railway stations would be upgraded including Chaklala and Margalla railway stations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad respectively.

Efforts would be made to double the freight traffic, he said and added, rail plazas and food streets would be constructed near the stations in collaboration with private sector.

E ticketing system would be improved further and travel agents would be authorized to issue railway tickets.

He also asked people to send practical suggestions through social media for improving Pakistan Railways and also pinpoint anomalies, or anything objectionable in trains, or at the railway stations.

The railway carriages would be named after the sponsoring companies.

A massive tree plantation would be started along the railway track right from Kemari to Peshawar, he said and urged land grabbers to voluntarily vacate their illegal possession of railway lands. He said that 5,000 studio apartments would be constructed for railway employees.

Pakistan Railways, he said, would not get subsidy from the government, if Rs 30 billion per annum pension of its retired railway employees was paid directly to pensioners by the government.

Responding to a question, he said Leh Expressway would be constructed under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. Train service would also be started on Leh Expressway from Rawat to Islamabad. He thanked media for supporting him while he was in opposition
 
What kind of Naya Pakistan newly appointed Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed is making? Where is the proper tender process on merit as promised by Imran Khan? How is this any different than Purana Pakistan where tenders were issued on favoritism without due process?

What kind of Naya Pakistan newly appointed Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed is making? Where is the proper tender process on merit as promised by Imran Khan? How is this any different than Purana Pakistan where tenders were issued on favoritism without due process?

If i am not wrong NLC & FWO are govt organizations. Tenders are required when a private company is to be used for the project.

In purana Pakistan the govt bypassed the norm and gave contracts to private companies owned by people like mian mansha. Thats the difference between naya Pakistan

My apologies.. sometimes you think everyone is thinking like you and you neglect to explain things thinking it's self explanatory.

To my knowledge they are not public companies rather are military engineering organizations and the profits from these companies are also for the use of military organizations. As for the bidding you should listen to the short clip I posted in a previous post but also here below.

NLC & FWO r Army ie government, and its only them who have big enough machinery, experince and expertise to dig tunnels in hills.

FWO is the one who is also making roads in Balochistan for CPEC project also, in past they helped build Karakoram Highway from Pakisran' side along with China.

Thats better, i just checked and they are state owned. But atleast they are not private organizations.

ZKB is doing most of the CPEC projects and their quality surpasses FWO's by miles and their fleet of equipment also is much larger as well more modern. ZKB is doing Hakla - D I Khan motorway as well the difficult D I Khan - Zhob section of N-50. They are also doing Lahore - Multan motorway, Hazara Motorway, Lahore Eastern bypass including bridge over Ravi, Lahore Orange Train Package 2 (took over after the first contractor screwed up) and many more..

Also there is Habib Construction Ltd. and many others who can do these projects and have the capacity.

NLC has been blacklisted by most ministries due to their below par quality of work. FWO is doing the upgrade of super highway to Hyderabad - Karachi Motorway, Lahore Sialkot Motorway, Swat Motorway and all of these projects have shown the incompetence of FWO so far.

This shows that you don't know much about how zahir Khan and his family acquires contracts.

You are comparing a contractor who was nothing prior to colluding with Nawaz Sharif with a state owned organization that has been responsible for much of mega projects in Pakistan. FWO/NLC has a decent management structure and are well versed in project management and project financing.

Let's see how many contracts do the ZKB and the lot get in the new government.

Besides they are a partnership firm which will not survive the test of time as there is no unity among the sons of the haji sb.

G kaka g that infrastructure or that road b/w Gwadar n Quetta which which Raheel Sharif n Nawaz Sharif rode on in army jeep was build by FWO in months, that entire 650 km of back then.

As for railway tracks that too by building tunnels in mountains/hills thats a big big task then building mere motorways. FWO is the only one who has experience, expertise n equipment for this kind of work....as they have already done that with KKH.

Sheikh Rasheed also invited private companies to build railway stations, Railway Hospitals & Dispensaries, along with a 5000-home housing project. Only the track which has to go through a tunnel will be handed over to NLC & FWO since they're well experienced from FATA/KP rebuilding projects.

Didn't FWO built the shitty karachi-hyderabad motorway or was it NLC ???
But i think that the process should be open and fair so that other private companies could have the chance to also develop..
