Nirbhay cruise missile fails midway

Bhubaneswar: India's indigenous surface-to-surface cruise missile Nirbhay nose-dived midway after it test fired in Odisha on Friday.

According to Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) sources, the missile was launched from the Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Balasore district at 11.38 am.

Although the take off was successful amid repeated disruptions of countdown, the missile missed the target after 11 minutes after it was test fired, said the sources.

The missile had a range of 750-1,000 km. But it nose-dived after covering 128 km in the Bay of Bengal.

The missile's first test on March 12, 2013 had also failed as it too fell after 20 minutes of flight. The second test on October 17, 2014 was also not up to the mark as it could not maintain a low height.

The cruise missile is expected to supplement the Indo-Russian joint venture supersonic cruise missile BrahMos, which can carry warheads up to 290 km.

The two-stage missile has a length of six metres, a diameter of 0.52 m, a wing span 2.7 m and a launch weight of about 1,500 kg.

I was laughing silently on the delusions of those who were talking about making a Sub marine launch version of Nirbhay within a year whereas they havent removed the kinks of LACM version yet.

Last time before failing Nirbhay range was 200km, after 2.5 years the range is 128 km's before diving down and hitting its nose on beach instead of water.......Keep trying for next five years and your nirbhay will be a world class

Nirbhay Missile nose dived just after 128 Kms ans crashed this time Nirbhay did't give a chance to be self destroy in a mid flight as per experts Nirbhay flight control computer totaly fail to maintain low flight altitude and needs serious uogardes which further delays the project 2 to 3 years.

Lets be realistic. It took Pakistan 9 years to operationalize Babur from the first test day. Nirbhay major problem area is its Navigational portion and it takes at least 5 years to achieve a IOC of cruise missile.

Media and and average India should come out of delusional and be realistic about the developmental goal of Nirbhay

As per reports from Indian defence sources Nirbhay can hover over a target for long time and when get a chance then hit is it true if they want to implement such tech how many years requires when simple flight tests fails.
