The first night rehearsal of the military parade dedicated to the 72nd anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War was held at the Red Square in Moscow on April 27.

28 ground troops of the Russian army, as well as cadet corps of the Nakhimov Navy School and the Moscow Suvorov Military School participated in the rehearsal.

The self-propelled Msta-S and the newest Koalitsiya-SV howitzers, as well as the Iskander missile system, along with representatives of the strategic missile forces and artillery, passed through the Red Square during the rehearsal.

The parade involving 10,001 troops, 114 units of military equipment and 72 aircraft will begin at 10:00 a.m. local time (07:00 GMT).

The event consists of three major parts, the infantry march, the procession of armored vehicles and a fly past column, involving military helicopters and airplanes.

This year's event is notable for the participation of 210 service women in the parade, which is twice as much as in 2016.

The vehicle part of the parade is marked by the presence of the newly developed Tor-M2DT short-range anti-aircraft missile system and the Pantsir-SA surface-to-air missile system, both designed to operate in the Arctic.

Russian Defense Minister Gen Sergei Shoigu and Col Gen Oleg Salyukov start to inspect the troops. The best servicemen of the 147th motor pool of the Russian Ministry of Defense are driving the cars. Their skills allow both motorcars to move simultaneously at the same speed.

Over the past year, more than 6,000 units of new armaments and military equipment entered into service in the Russian Armed Forces, including more than 470 armored vehicles, 130 planes and helicopters, as well as 40 underwater and overwater vessels.

Over the past year, the Russian Armed Forces have shown a high level of combat skills. Officers and soldiers are ready to accomplish any task to guarantee territorial integrity and security of the country.

The address of the Russian president is followed by the national anthem.

Parade commander Col Gen Oleg Salyukov heads the solemn military march.

The military parade is traditionally opened by the Drums Corps of the Moscow Military Music School, which sets the rhythm and tempo of the parading battalions.

Cadets of the Military Music School opened the very first Victory Parade on June 24, 1945.

This year the Drums Corps of the Moscow Military Music School celebrates its 80th anniversary.

The flag bearers are accompanied by an assembled Honor Guard of the three armed forces: ground troops, air force and navy.

Today, the movement amounts to 70,000 youth from all the regions of Russia.
