The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General Sani Audu, on Friday, said that the federal government had established two new defence sections in Bamako and Niamey.
Audu revealed this at the graduation ceremony of Defence Advisers and Deputy Defence Advisers initial training and Security Investigation and Interrogation Course at the Defence Intelligence School Karu, Abuja.
He said the sections were established because of the emerging global trend of terrorism and the sub-regional security challenges.
The section, among other things, would provide adequate intelligence on the activities of terrorist groups like Al Qaeda in Islamic Maghreb, he said. As you are aware, while the general objectives of the defence adviser system remain largely unchanged, the same cannot be said of the environment in which you are operating.
The CDI charged the officers that as they return to their duty post they should apply all that they have learnt during the training.
According to him, in the past DAs and DDAs take up their appointments without the prerequisite knowledge from the initial training, thus making their reports ineffective and their outputs inadequate.
Gentlemen, let your own stories be different, he said. I gleaned from the course feedback that the course has been most beneficial. Therefore, let me just mention that you must not rest on your oars.
He also congratulated those who have successfully completed the security investigation and interrogation course and re-emphasised the need for them to apply what they have learnt back in their various services and departments.
Earlier, Commandant of the College, Commodore Adekunle Olawunmi, said intelligence is and would remain a vital input to state craft even if the growing complexity of our environment has made its production complicated.
One of the participants in the course Major-General John Ogidi, Defence Adviser London, said the training would aid the participants to do their job effectively in the various countries they are posted.
