What's new

Nia Pakistan, Tabdeeli aa gyi...

Apology tendered. But with one in 200 statistical probability you surely can see why I was not optimistic about finding a PDF tax paper Pakistani!

The OSPs are exempt and the resident ones can't escape it. It's deduction at source and most of them are employed salaried people I guess (except for students) ......... the businessmen if they are dealing in cash only and don't do business with any organisation may be escaping it, otherwise the chance of them escaping tax deduction is highly unlikely.

I believe 700,000 are filed as taxpayers in Pakistan in a population of 200 million. That is actually less then even one in 200!

Deduction / paying of income tax and filing of income tax returns are two different things. If you read my post above I have been whining about how this new online system of filing returns (without properly educating the awam) is a tool in hands of consultants to make money. Normally and ideally an efficient tax system would make it easy for the tax payer ......... but in Pakistan everything related to tax from laws, rules to filings is kept complicated intentionally ....... cause firms lose business, lawyers would go unemployed. It's a whole mafia and experts behind giving advises to government on these tax matters are normally partners of big 4 (like PWC, KPMG etc) in Pakistan.

Do you know there was this Malaysian Power generation company in Pakistan TNB Liberty something, they had a valid sales tax refund claim ........ and FBR didn't pay them a penny, kept dragging their heels, in process making TNB pay huge professional fees ........ Oxy, BP pick any company that tried winding down its operations and see how much they ended up paying to this cursed FBR department. There is huge amount of tax collection at source that goes undocumented, and where it has been spent.

The assumption that Pakistanis don't pay tax is gross misstatement, how do you think these Nawaz and Zardaris of Pakistan made all that money, how do you think they became rich even when economy of Pakistan and people of Pakistan have been suffering. Money laundering needs some money ...... they may have looted the debt money but they have looted a lot from Pakistanis .......

Government should increase more taxes. People will cry but this is way to move forward and for betterment of country.
People are used to get free lunch.

Isn't betterment of a country inherently linked to making People smile by lessening their burden? Or, making people cry is the new motto of patriots ?

Free lunch = Nation smile.
What type of logic is this. They should pay taxes. Enough of free lunch!:D

The figure is less then one Pakistani in 200. Means there more transgenders in Pakistan then taxpayers. And statistically non of PDF Pakistani's are tax payers .....

The previous govt. did one thing right before leaving. Adding the requirement of having a Tax File Number before you can buy a car or real estate.

PTI reversed that under pressure from auto companies and real estate developers.

Nothing wrong with increasing gas prices or increasing import duty on smart phones though.

Inflation will occur at the initial stage and may even become unbearable yet those who know economics will understand that we have a govt at last that is not thinking about only 5 yrs but for the decades to come, covering things up at the cost of national exchequer by ppp and pmln in the past has lead us to this situation, we must bear the burdern of the state if we are to avoid beghing for loans to run the country in the foreseeable future, hope they take concrete steps to widen the tax base after the initial storm has subisided.

Do you agree with Khan to give nationality to filthiest scum of this planet?
Absolutely NOT!!
But i do KNOW that his is not what is going to happen. Have explained it in detail on some other thread as well. Our people need to understand the functioning of the gov and get intelligent enough to read between the lines. If not, we will keep on seeing people crying about every other thing, only to be proven how wrong they were later on (and then shameless ignoring that fact and turning attentions towards their next planned mistake)

What about the private professionals? Government babus get a promised monthly pension at retirement, housing schemes, plots, and during their service huge houses, house hiring subsidies, maids, servants, drivers, green number plate car .......... what do the private professionals (who by the way bear the more brunt simply because they get higher salaries) get? An EOBI pension of PKR 10,000 per month after retirement. Yep that is some justice.

This progressive slab system of tax rates would make any sense when people paying higher taxes get some benefit in return, some relief, otherwise it's just reducing their purchasing power and increasing cost of living for them in an already inflation struck country.
You are referring to Grade 17 and above, rest Ranker would get nothing at their retirement, other then commute and pension.
