NHA to build 9.7 km long Malakand Tunnel

National Highway Authority would build 9.7 kilometers long Malakand Tunnel to shorten distance for travelers belonging to Dir‚ Malakand and Swat.

The Tunnel will also provide easy access to Pakistani goods for Central Asian States.

According to official sources‚ South Korea has already pledged 78 million dollars for the project.

Than we All know chitral is a gateway to central asia having border with wakhan corridor

LAHORE (PPI) - Federal advisor on textile, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, during a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Hamrokhon Zarifi in Dushanbe, has stressed the need for a road link to facilitate the trade between Pakistan and Tajikistan, as from Chitral, only 36km road can link Pakistan with Tajik border. He also requested to reduce the landing charges of the airlines for Tajikistan enabling PIA and other airlines to operate to Dushanbe.

Yes called Wakhan corridor.We either will have to pay the transit fee or Grab the land if civil war starts in Afghanistan

that would be a problem, unless ofcourse a pro- Peace/Pakistan govt is established in Afghanistan.

actually it can be great route for road travelers who dont wish to come through China. and cut short their route to Pakistan or to enter India through Wagha. but for us Pakistanis, the Afghans will be troublesome..

If we can pay the transit fee,The Afghan would be more than happy.

And most important the tajikistan never would have invested in the road link if so was the case.

beside this Tajikistan has funded even parts of the karakoram highway

1-At the start of the karakoram highway within hassanabdal a sign board is written in tajik,chinese and English

2-somewhere around shangla i had seen a similar sign board with tajik language

2-Somewhere close to the khunjerab/Chitral
Notice the sign board with tajik language apart from Chinese and english

Never heard about this.May be the upgradation Since a road already existing between Bannu and kabul(Through the Ghulam khan border between miranshah/Khost).

I think Pakistan should purchase that territory from Afghanistan. It is very strategic territory & will link Pakistan directly to Central Asian countries.

All Pakistan need is to charge the transit of foreign goods, in its own country.

People have some sense... when we are paying for the fuel, to run generators of northern alliance, than why shall we pay more money to northern alliance for letting us go through a 500 meter wide valley.

After all this corridor has been used in TTP takeover of sawat and Pakistan have all rights to control it.

Purchasing is not possible.We will have to pay the transit fee.Ooops not we but the central asian countries.And again they would also pay very less transit fee as the route through the wakhan corridor is just 12km.
But even if they Dont give us the route.We are still connected with Tajikistan but through mountains and the route is slightly difficult though still exist and witht he investment of couple of hundred millions.We can get access to tajikistan bypassing Afghanistan
