Next President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari

Mohammad Hamid Ansari (محمد حامد انصاری ) (born April 1, 1937) is the 12th and current Vice President of India. He is a former chairman of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM). He is also an academician, a career diplomat, and a former Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University.

He was elected the 12th Vice President of India on 10 August 2007 and took office on 11 August 2007.

Ansari was born in Calcutta (now Kolkata) on April 01, 1937 though his family belongs to Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. He is the grand nephew of former Congress President and freedom fighter Mukhtar Ahmad Ansari.

He studied at Shimla's St. Edwards High School, the St. Xavier's College of the University of Calcutta and at the Aligarh Muslim University.

Ansari started his career as a civil servant in the Indian Foreign Service in 1961. He was Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Indian High Commissioner to Australia and Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia. He was awarded the Padma Shree in 1984. He was also the Vice-Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University from May 2000 to March 2002.

He is known for his role in ensuring compensation to the victims of the Gujarat riots and pushing for a complete re-look into the relief and rehabilitation for riot victims since 1984.

Ansari is a renowned West Asia scholar and has written trenchantly on the Palestinian issue and taken positions inconvenient to the Indian official line on Iraq and Iran. He questioned India’s vote in the International Atomic Energy Agency on Iran’s nuclear programme where India voted against Iran.

His appointment will send a laud and clear message also he have good rapport with Muslim countries being a former diplomat and active Muslim scholar. In this area he will be more suitable and beneficial then non political former prez Dr. Kalam.

He is our best choice for President of India and most certainly he will be our next president. What's say.

My 2 Cents.

I think the office of the President of India is like a vestige of the past. In the recent times the office has become hostage to the party that sponsors the Presidential nominee. To me these days the President just a face mask of Government of India (and the party in Center) going around the world and responsible for huge wastage of public money. All of Presidential Tasks should be given to to the Chief Justice of India to perform and Presidents office should be abolished.

I am all for it if the Presidents plays his/her role correctly but the last President of India with balls and someone who played his role correctly was A P J Abdul Kalam. But I don't have hope for another one like him.

P.S. I am not against the nomination of VP Hamid Ansari. I am ok even if the office is abolished after he completes his term as President.

The mantle of 'President' is not that important. Dr. Kalam's was a great man before he became president.

He was involved in (super top secret) ballistic missile development and nuke tech. The 'President' tag was just a bonus. We don't need to prove anything to the world (least of all Pakistan)

I don't think this is happening, because there is no rule as in previous incident that vice president is going to be future president.

I will ask Mr. Manmohan Sigh to quit his prime minister job and make him president as respect for his economic reforms.

Because India today needs more strong prime minister in evidence of all these scams. It is even most important for our state (Andhra Pradesh) as we are moving towards separate telengana/ combined Andhra issue.

i think he is an automatic choice now that he is the vice president.. but i would liken kalam sir to be president again...
