What's new

New tax in Pak could make screening of Indian films expensive

They watch our movies, listen to our songs, copy our dressings and good. Still find ways to irritate us with these idiotic moves.

That's because Pakistani "artists" are hollow and have no creativity.

At the basic level, Pakistani women love Indian movies and dramas because they contain emotional melodrama (chick flick) and colorful fashion statements (clothes, jewelry, etc.). That's why women watch movies around the world.

Neither of these things is exclusive to Indian culture, and there is no reason why Pakistani artists can not deliver such content to capture the local women audience. Instead, the best they can do is ape Bollywood movies.

The case in point was that idiot from Karachi who kept whining that his adaptation of Devdas was censored because it contained scenes of drinking liquor. Now, besides the fact that this "artist" so utterly lacks creativity that the best he can do is to copy Indian movies, does he have to copy it wholesale? Is alcohol really the central message in the movie that substituting it with something else would ruin the story?

Something or someones needs to give several kicks in the pants to Pakistani artists to lift their game and start producing content like they did in the old days.

devdas is not a copy of a bollywood movie. Its a novel written by a celebrated bengali writer, and there has been multiple take on it in bollywood, the latest one being Dev D.
Its like saying dont adopt any shakespeare because he is british.

I would be interested to know his adaptation, hope its not a copy.

Devdas is the very famous Bengali nobel by Sarat Chandra Chatterjee and more than a dozen of movies based on this nobel had been made in many languages.

Drinking alochol was meant to show that the Devdas felt himself ruined after his parents refused him to marry his childhood love Paro but Paro was married to someone else and lots of drinking brought him closer to death.

No, if the story is powerful -- and this one seems like the granddaddy of the usual samaaj ki deevar stories -- then it might make sense to adapt it for local audiences.

Precisely.

Getting depressed and dejected is a common human emotion that everyone can identify with. However, taking to the bottle is not a universal reaction. The vast majority of people in Pakistan do not start drinking alcohol when they get depressed. There are many ways to show that a person is depressed, and a truly creative artist should have the ingenuity to adapt the novel to the target audience.

Of course, but let him use his freedom to show the way he wants to show it to audience. If it does not click or people cant identify themselves with the character, it will fail, and probably he and other directors will learn a lesson.

Drinking is shown as negative aspect, what could be the replacement for alcohal. As I mentioned lots of drinking caused health complications to Devdas which ultimately causing the death. He had to die before Paro home in the climax.

Bollywood's Devdas both by Dilip Kumar and Shakrukh Khan are considered masterpieces.

There are many Hindi movies based on famous Nobels.

Bigotry has taken over to Pakistan's censor board. Pakistan had made movies on Devdas in 1960s. Their bigoted censorboard will allow the hero of the movie using the abusive word 'dog' for Hindus but will never allow showing drinking even in negative sense

We know what sells movies in the subcontinent: emotional melodrama, fashion statements, and songs.
Pakistani artists used to know it in decades past; Bollywood continues to do so.

he and other directors will learn a lesson.

They won't. They haven't figured it out for the last 3 decades.

The important point in Devdas, for example, is to portray the character's descent into despair and dejection. Alcohol is one way, but there are myriad ways of showing it without running afoul of well-known local censorship rules.

of course there are many ways... I dont think the director is saying this is the only way... he could have shown drugs.. or sudden interest in religion followed by radicalism....
film is a director's medium, if you make movies, you can make it in your way..

1. By harming those areas which promote peace, India is helping the "terrorists" .

2. If India is so keen to protect its people and pressurize Pakistan then it must end all ties. Funny is that you are allowing your movies and also long for trade and want trade route through Pakistan and willing to forget your favourit cry the "terror". This is where money comes in the picture. You guys if can make money through such steps then you forget about "terrorism against your people".

so stop coming up with facepalms regarding harming sports/writers/artists. You have acheived nothing through this.

as far as terrorists and killing of innocent people are concerned your Hindu terrorists had killed and burnt alive over 60 Pakistanis in Samjhota express inside India. You are not saints.

Look within and then blame others.

I am all for sports and people to people contact but we have endured cross border terrorism since 1989 on wards and we have lost faith in our neighbor to do the right thing. Our measured responses are because of our trust deficit.

Samjhota express happened in our country and we have cracked the case and apprehended the culprits. On December 30, 2010, India's National Investigation Agency claimed that they had solid evidence that Swami Aseemanand was the mastermind behind the blasts. 68 people lost their lives in those blasts. People responsible will be punished. It is one of an incident which could have been prevented... but our intelligence failed. I agree we are no saints but we don't have a ****** culture and we don't indoctrinate and train young recruits to do jihad.

Do you think you can export your cheap made Bollywood pictures elsewhere? so best solution is feeding your hungry people with your excellent Bollywood production....

Why? Does it hurt your sorry little mullah *** that even with all those hate Bollywood movies screen in Pakistan.

All because of widespread piracy. Someone told me that the total number of cinema halls in whole of Pakistan is even less than the number of multiplexes or cinema halls either in Delhi or Mumbai.

 What can you expect?

It's funny the pathetic obsession some of these mullahs have with things that have nothing to do with them.

BTW, Bollywood is popular all over the world. Pakistan doesn't even register as a market even in the overseas circuit.

Even today, it is not uncommon to have people from Russia/Israel/Morocco/Central Asia or even China to greet an Indian with "Awara hun" after all these decades. Bollywood is staple fare in many parts of the world across continents.

And it has nothing to do with Pakistan.

.
Wait a minute ! in PDF 99.9999% people say that pakistanis dont give a rats a$$ about bollywood movies and here they are BANNING bollywood movies or imposing taxes to keep "indiscriminate import of foreign movies in check"

Now thats totally opposite :woot:

.
 What can you expect?

No culture developed in Pakistan to watch movies in Cinema hall or Multiplex because they don't like Lollywood movies and Bollywood movie was banned with widespread piracy business.
