As goofy as the idea may seem on paper, I have always been intrigued by the idea of an AR-based shotgun platform. Honestly, I have no real use for one, however, as we all are painfully aware, “needs” and firearms can be interpreted in many ways. The new Panzer Arms AR-12 sold by Atlantic Firearms has a price point for potential buyers like myself – hovering at impulse buy levels.
I am a fan of simpler more classic designs, so I’m not sure the AR-12 is my cup of tea. Maybe at SHOT Show we will have a chance to put hands on one of these unique scatterguns. Details and pricing are listed below.
Shotgun is a gas-operated, semi-automatic shotgun designed to look and function similarly to the AR15/M16 rifle. The AR-12 is very light, ergonomic, magazine fed shotgun. Unlike most other 12 gauge Tactical shotguns in the U.S. The AR-12’s magazine release button and manual safetymimic the M16 rifle location. The top of the receiver has a carrying handle and integral picatinny rail for mounting rear sights, optics, or accessories. The AR-12 barrel can be very easily removed and the upper receiver is manufactured from an aluminum alloy, while the lower receiver, pistol grip, and stock are manufactured as one piece from impact resistant polymer. If you are looking for an affordable semi auto mag fed Tac Shotgun this is the unit for you. These do also work with aftermarket quality 10 roundmagazines like the MKA 1919. These are a semi auto Tactical shotgun and work best with Hi powered loads like Buck shot , Slugs or duck loads. May not function well with weak bird shot or trap loads.
