I don't know whether cost of living in Sri Lanka is higher or lower...humm here are my basic monthly bills which I have to take care

Electricity - 3500 LKR
Water - 700 LKR
LP gas - 2450 LKR
Landline - 2500 LKR
Mobile - 1500 LKR
Dialog SAT TV - 1000 LKR
8Mbps Broadband line - 1490 LKR +TAX

Most annoying bill is the electricity bill!

Petrol (my byke and my bro) - 3000RS
Diesel car - depends upon trip
mobile -( all are using mobiles 4) - 3000+ dad bill around 2000
current bill *2500

driver- 6k+ food+shelter
etc..... so you don't need to start di$k measuring ok....

Recent govt. regulation has restricted subsidised cylinders to 9. After that you have to pay full price ~ 900

gasoline--1 L-----￥8.00 floating
a bus ticket-----￥2(1 for non-AC bus) in most cities
taxi -- 1 km-----￥6-12 for the first three kms,2-3 per km,depends on which city you live.
KFC family bucket-----￥60-70, a little different in different cities
network costs and bandwidth--per month-----depends on the service providers,in 2009 i spent abou 2200rmb for 12M/one year in shenzhen
movie ticket（hollywood's）-----￥50-100,much cheaper if buy online
motorbike-----almost knocked out,about 3000-5000,not sure.electric bicycle about 2000-3000

but maybe i mislead you in internet cost.it should be 12mbps/year. and most families use 2-8mbps,8mbps cost 1200rmb per year in my city.

nothing is cheap. here in germany, milk with 3.5% fat is 55 cents in India too its same. butter costs here 1.70 euros(120 rupees) in delhi its around 134 rupees. bread is cheaper here. coke is cheaper, Ghee is 3.80 euros(200 rupees) in delhi its 400 rupees per kg. Dal 3.5 kg is around 3.50 euros, in delhi its same 190 rupees 3 kgs.

onion is 30 rupees per kg, in germany, same with potato. 3 pizzas here is 160 , in delhi its 500 rupees one pizza.

only wheat flour, rice and salt is cheaper.

transportation is also costly now in delhi. thanks to metro that it has taken the load. Well in germany also its aprrox same if you buy monthly tickets.
