- So2 emission in absolute volume:
Since 2007, emissions in China have declined by 75% while those in India have increased by 50%. With these changes, India is now surpassing China as the world’s largest emitter of anthropogenic SO2.

- So2 emission intensity (# grams So2 per kg coal consumption)
12–16 g SO2/kg coal for both countries before 2007, implying little control on SO2 in either country at one decade before. Since then, the ratio has remained virtually unchanged for India, implying continued absence of SO2 emission control. The ratio for China, however, has dropped to 2–3 g SO2/kg coal, suggesting effective control measures that have eliminated ~80% of potential SO2 emissions.

And the Nature's observation on China's rapid reduction on SO2 emission is CONSISTENT with the findings from other resources. For example,
Clean Coal Centre of IEA (International Energy Agency):
- Every Chinese power plant is equipped with PM and SO2 control equipment, almost all have NOx removal devices;
- Efficient coal-based power plants are more common in China than in USA or in Europe.

And a US-based agency compares the efficiency (# gram coal required to generate one kwh electricity) of the most-efficient coal-based power plants in China and US effectively. The findings are consistent to the above-mentioned conclusion by IEA: Efficient coal-based power plants are more common in China than in USA

BTW, the average efficiency rate to the China power network is 311g coal per kwh electricity; and the loss % caused by transmission is 6.4%.

Do you want to know the corresponding rates for the India power network? The answer is:
- Efficiency rate of the India power network: 610g coal per kwh electricity (i.e. for the same amount of electricity, India needs to burn two units of coal, but China only need one unit of coal)

- Loss % caused by transmission of the India power network: 21.81%! (i.e. more than 20% of the electricity is WASTED IN INDIA)

Westerner will not be lenient on Indians. They will basically gloat at any non western. They will not just becos Indian join their anti China camp and be nice on them. Ask the Japanese and South Korean. :enjoy:

I wonder they will ever have the political will and financial and technological capabilities to clean up. Given that India is still in the early development stage, curbing the already lackluster industries would result in massive unemployment and (if technology upgrades are enforced) closures.

Such a clean up would also rely on foreign technology and equipment (as India does not manufacture much high technology), which would mean they cannot use the wonderful PPP money. Extra stress on the government/private industries' budget.

Besides, judging by the efficiency standards of Indian government, the efforts themselves would generate more problems than solving target problems.

India should abandon its competitive mentality toward China and learn from China's experience in dealing with pollution, which has blanketed the country in the past week, experts said.

A US embassy index showed levels of poisonous airborne particles, known as PM 2.5, had reached 495 on Monday morning in India, compared with the upper limit of "good" quality air of 50, Reuters reported.

Central New Delhi's level of PM2.5 exceeded a staggering 1,000 on Wednesday on the US Environmental Protection Agency's air quality index, the ABC news reported.

"India has some indexes on smog as well, but are not effective," said Hu Zhiyong, a research fellow at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences' Institute of International Relations.

China also faces air quality concerns especially in winter when the PM 2.5 could surpass 500 in some northern areas, but the situation has improved significantly with timely measures.

"China has been setting standards that suit its local conditions, as well as strict laws to reduce air pollution, which provide support to the campaign," said Wang Gengchen, a research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Atmospheric Physics Institute.

China and India are both developing countries with big populations, and they both face severe pollution issues.

Analysts said that China has valuable experience that India could study and use, such as closing factories which produce heavy pollution.

Wang said that investment in pollution research is also necessary and could also be crucial for India to deal with similar issues.

"But India may not be willing to learn from China because it always views China as a competitor," Hu said, adding that India should be more mature and learn from the experiences of other countries.

"Environmental issues have no national boundaries and countries should put aside their political biases," Wang noted.

Delhi suffers from heavy pollution in winter primarily from the burning of crop stubble to clear the fields in agricultural areas in the neighboring northern state of Punjab and Haryana.

I go YouTube and saw a video about China air pollution in 2014 is still being given comment as recent as few days ago by Indian troll while the latest smog in New Delhi in Nov 17 are desperate trying to shelve aside as temporary and nothing serious. :enjoy:

You can understand the desperation of Indian trying very hard of their propaganda work to project India is still superior to China even in terms of less pollution. There is even one idiot blaming the pollution is actually from China. :lol:

It's not going to work. Their masses are either too “doped” or too hungry to even care; their elites are too arrogant or too proud to learn from China, and its government is too dysfunctional and too incompetent to execute any workable plan like Chinese gov did.
