New coronavirus cases in mainland China fall to lowest since January

BEIJING (Reuters) - Mainland China had 327 new confirmed cases of coronavirus infections on Thursday, the country's National Health Commission said on Friday, down from 433 cases a day earlier and the lowest since Jan. 23.

That brings the total accumulated number of confirmed cases in mainland China so far to 78,824.

China's central Hubei province, the epicentre of the outbreak, had 318 new confirmed cases, down from 409 cases a day earlier and the lowest since Jan. 24.

Excluding Hubei, mainland China reported just nine new cases on Thursday, down from 24 a day earlier.

The provincial capital of Wuhan reported 313 confirmed cases, down from 383 a day earlier and the lowest since Jan. 26.


The death toll in mainland China reached 2,788 as of the end of Thursday, up by 44 from the previous day.

Hubei reported 41 new deaths on Thursday, while in Wuhan, 28 people died.

Yes, in Beijing it bounced back, one virus carrying cleaner infected 10 people and one released prisoner drove back to Beijing from Wuhan and now her whole family have to be in quarantine. Good thing is Beijing's today's new confirmed cases are back to zero.

That's true. However by July the weather will be much warmer and coronaviruses disappear with the hot weather. At the moment, China is working together with Japan and other countries by sharing data and resources. China and Japan may not always get along but we can't deny their positive qualities. Just recalling how they handled the Tohoku disasters, have to admit their population is very disciplined and I am sure they would be able to get through their outbreak.

Right now one thing we can do for all afflicted countries is pray. It doesn't seem like much but when people see that they are not alone, the world is behind them their spirits are raised.

That's true but increases in new cases seems to be slower than in Italy, Iran and Korea. If you look at the stats, Singapore has had 96 cases and zero deaths. Southeast Chinese countries neighbouring China have even better stats. The worse afflicted are all countries with colder climates.

The scary thing is that the best experts still have much to learn about this virus, fear of the unknown is driving a lot of the irrational behavior we are witnessing around the world.

In the end we are all in this struggle together.
