Newly appointed Ambassador of China to Bangladesh Yao Wen has described Bangladesh as the "Pearl of the Bay of Bengal, an important country in South Asia and a rapidly emerging economy."

"Bangladesh is playing an irreplaceable role in regional and international affairs," said the ambassador who arrived on Wednesday evening to serve as the 16th ambassador of China to Bangladesh.

Yao thanked and paid a tribute to Bangladeshi friends from all walks of life for their kind help and stern support for the betterment of China-Bangladesh relations.

He said under the strategic guidance of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the China-Bangladesh Strategic Partnership of Cooperation has been developing fast and steadily.

"We keep enhancing mutual political trust, proactively synergize development strategies, promote cooperation in all fields, understand and support each other on core interests and major concerns, and jointly uphold international justice and true multilateralism," said the envoy.

Acknowledging that China has embarked on a new journey toward a modern socialist country in all respects while Bangladesh is striving with no effort spared for the splendid dream of "Sonar Bangla" by following the country's Vision 2041 perspective plan, the envoy said their common goals would definitely bring about more powerful dynamics, more vigorous vitality, and an even brighter future for the bilateral relations.

Yao said he is ready to work with friends from all walks of life to steadily implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, continuously explore new growth areas and write a new chapter for the Bangladesh-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

In his written remarks delivered upon arrival he said as the new ambassador of China to Bangladesh, he would like to keep extensive contact with all Bangladeshi friends, familiarize himself with and respond to expectations of local people towards China-Bangladesh relations, continuously explore new growth points, and let the bilateral relations better benefit the people and the community at large.

"All happiness in life is the result of unswerving efforts. For a promising tomorrow of China-Bangladesh relations, let's trail the blaze, lead the way, and strive for the best," he said.

Arriving at the Dhaka Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the ambassador received "warm hospitality" from protocol officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, and officials of the Chinese Embassy.

Hasina will pivot back to China once the fake election is over.

She is hugging India close because that is what Uncle Sam has ordered 😂😂😂

As usual, you are a great political philosopher. Hasina Bibi may need you at her side to get advice from you on many international affairs.

Even @UKBengali may want you to become his Coach.

I'll make the discussion short and sweet. Hey Bangladesh, can you give us (the Chinese) a base on your coast for our Navy? Even a transitioning one would work. How can we help you to strengthen your economy?

Nah!

Hasina cannot afford us.

She cannot compete with FANG remuneration packages even with the bribes!

Work from home three days a week. Private health at Bupa. Company car. Free gourmet meals in the office. First class trips to India.

Come on! Behave yourself!!!

@SoulSpokesman
@UKBengali

🤩🤩🤣🤣👏👏👏

Be patient brother.

You build the Teesta dam/barrage.

You move some of your sunset industries to our EPZs.

Then just pick the exact spot where you want to park your subs!

And tell Uncle Sam to wank himself 🤩🤩😂😂

Neither India nor Uncle Sam would like a Chinese base anywhere in the BoB. Sittwe may be a good place for that in Burma. But, I believe Burma does not want any because of the Indian veto, and America will ask India to influence MM not to grant it.

Actually a base in Bangladesh doesn't make a lot of sense For China as Bangladesh is tucked away hundreds of miles from the main shipping lanes.
Sri Lankan or Myanmar ports are more suitable for Chinese military ambitions.

That depends on who is asking the question in this forum.

Most Pakistanis would not have an issue with this.

However Indians with false falgger accounts would.

Nice words but the biggest question is can he convince CCP to direct Chinese outsorced manufacturing towards Bangladesh to help expand the export basket?

However, @UKBengali does not support foreign investments in BD unless it is from India. There are probably a hundred posts of his that say it. He thinks FDI people will take away our dollars and make us poorer. But, he is not worried that Indian exports to BD will reach $32 billion.

Depends on what industry or technology the FDI would bring in.
FDI does have the downside of outflow of profits.

I see no point in seeking FDI in t-shirts or denim but would gladly welcome investments in automotive components, semi conductors, consumer and industrial electronics, mobilephone components, aeronautical products, heavy equipment, etc.

Bold part: In reality, it may be just the opposite, FDI guys may re-invest their profits if there is no limit to taking out money legally. Since their new investment will be safe in BD, therefore, it will encourage them to invest further.

At the end of the day, however, a company or an individual has the right to bring in or take out his money. Restricted, it will encourage transfer by Hundi.

I don't think it is his job to convince CCP to transfer Chinese sunset industry to Bangladesh.

However he can set up effective working dialog between Chinese Business conglomerates and Bangladeshi ones on equipment purchases from China.

Also do business matchmaking so more Bangladeshi value addition (High grade ones) is made attractive to Chinese businesses.

Trade promotion back and forth and liaison with Business Chambers in both countries is what Chinese ambassadors have done well historically.

They also carry and promote the CCP's message to Bangladesh Govt. but usually CCP tends to not get involved in for-profit capital projects unless it is G2G projects of a very large nature, like Padma Bridge or Karnaphuli tunnel.

Outgoing Chinese ambassador His excellency Li Jiming was especially effective at G2G project planning coordination.

IMHO - Heavy and Light Engineering investments from China are high value addition items and are the crying need of the day in Bangladesh.

Casting, forging and precision CNC manufacturing (even of a semi-automatic nature) to support automotive (motorcycle) components parts production for example are what we need right now. Value addition in forged items are maybe dozens of times higher per hour of labor spent (compared to apparel) and this is not anything impossible to do in Bangladesh. Walton already produces HVAC small compressors for Refrigeration uses and they are very good at it. Casting and forging is the basis of 1IR and 2IR. Unless you have expertise in this, you cannot go into 3IR, much less 4IR.

IMHO Bangladesh has a Looong ways to go (with educated workforce) before we are ready for 4IR, very few countries in ASEAN even are ready for it - except China, Taiwan, Korea. We should concentrate on taking up the mantle of 2IR and 3IR from China in some low cost areas.

Some of these forged components can be easily made by re-heating ship breaking items and even by re-heating billets. Forging and casting technology in Bangladesh is practically mediaeval. This needs to change.

Bangladesh could shine at this just like they have in the apparel sector.

Also, various sizes of brushless/coreless and AC motors for electric automotive use which also have very large scale value add and labor input - way higher than the return available for apparel.
