2016, Sept. 20 -- North Korea has successfully conducted the ground test of a new rocket engine, the country's state news agency reported.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un visited the Sohae Space Center to guide the test of "a new type high-power engine of a carrier rocket for the geo-stationary satellite," the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
This test was “aimed to make a final confirmation of the feature of combustion chamber, operation accuracy of valves and control systems and structural reliability of the engine during 200 seconds-long working time". North Korea also says the engine has a thrust of 80 tons of force !

In November 2013, Bill Gertz reported that Iranian missile technicians had visited North Korea in secret to jointly develop a new “80-ton rocket booster” for long-range missiles or SLVs.

Two months later the US Treasury Department issued sanctions against several persons and entities, including the Shahid Hemmat Industrial Group, or SHIG, the firm responsible for development of Iran’s liquid-fueled missiles, and two individuals, Seyed Mirahmad Nooshin and Sayyed Medhi Farahi.

The Treasury Department notice specifically mentions that Nooshin and Farahi had travelled to North Korea, and that the two “have been critical to the development of the 80-ton rocket booster.”

Previous cooperations :

Iran & NK previously cooperated in developing Simorgh & Unha 2/3 rockets ...

But Huge differences between two rockets tells that Iranian & NK engineers developed the rockets independently & First stage main engines are the only possible similarity :

It is clear now that the Simorgh is significantly different
to the North Korean Unha.

The integration of a fifth turbopump for the steering engines requires larger gaps between the main engines (unlike the Unha).
Due to the increased consumption of fuel by the strong control thrusters, the first stage is longer.

Congratulations, how much can it put in the LEO?

Simorgh : 500kg to 500km

Sepehr : 700-1000kg to 1000km

New engine !

What is next ?

TEHRAN, 2010, Aug. 05 - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran is working on a three-stage rocket to carry a satellite 1,000 kilometres into space.

TEHRAN, 2012, March 05 - Information by Mehdi Farahi, Director of the Aerospace Industry Organization:
Safir-2A is the first version of Safir-2 with the name of Simorgh. Length of it is 26 m, diameter of it is around 2.5 m and weight of it is around 86 tons. Thrust of is around 143 tons. It can put 100 kg satellites into 500 km altitude orbits.
The next our step is Safir-3A and Safir-3B that can put 1,000 kg satellites into 1,000 km altitude orbits. If could add micro thrusters and some side equipments (strap on booster) to it, it can put payloads into 36,000 km altitude orbits.
The design and production of satellite carrier rockets with a range of 1,000 kilometers are given a high priority in the country’s Five-Year Development Plan (2010-2015).
Iran aims to send other satellites into geostationary orbits, around 36,000 kilometers above the Earth's equator, after the end of the country’s Five-Year Development Plan. (postponed)

TEHRAN, 2013, Feb. 11 - The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology Mahdinejad Nouri approved two major national projects in the fields of research and technology, which include designing and developing two new engines for the country’s satellite carrier rockets.
As regards the new rocket engines will participate Sharif, Amirkabir, Tabriz and Mashhad Ferdowsi University in the 5-year project.

TEHRAN, 2013, Aug. 20 - the new generation of Simorgh satellite carrier, "Sepehr" will be launched in the future. Sepehr is capable of carrying satellites as heavy as 700 kilograms and could place them in 1000 kilometer orbit.

Iran's Imam Khomeini Space Launch Center (IKSLC) & Sohae Space Launch Facility (upgraded) are much taller than Simorgh & Unha-3 !

Iran's Imam Khomeini Space Launch Center (IKSLC) :

More than 20 meters taller than simorgh !

Sohae Space Launch Facility (upgraded) :

What does it mean ?

These launch facilities designed for larger SLVs ... Not simorgh & Unha-3 !

Following chinese footsteps or SpaceX's !?

Chinese CZ-1 which developed in 1960s was very close to Simorgh & Unha-2/3 in design & dimensions .

But later china developed another SLV ( CZ-2 )

But there is another way !!!

Following SpaceX footsteps :

Which is doubtful !!! :undecided:

So Irans current SLV´s are technoligcally equivallent to Chinas SLV´s from the 60s? 50 years behind?

After Tehrani (father of irans missiles) dead i expect delays in Irans missile improvement
Lets be realistic, you can never exchange such person.
Beside, in the explosion, also other experts were killed, the best experts in solid propellant fuel.
All current missile presentations we see till today, Zuliqfar/Fateh/Emad.... were developed when Tehrani was still alive,so what we can now expect?
Its a very big gap after his dead, I expect technological relaps of 5-10 years...

these guys have no food to eat and they are developing SLV's
Amazing priorities!

It's good we are helping the North Koreans, they were very helpful to us during the 80's. Iranians do not forget kindnesses show to them.

It is obvious Iran is greatly influencing their space program. It's no surprise that only after Iranians started "visiting" their launches etc that they satellite launches started being successful.
