KATHMANDU: Appreciating the help extended by Indian rescuers following the devastating earthquake that rocked Nepal on April 25, Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said on Friday that the country is blessed to have neighbours like India.

"We are really blessed as we have neighbours like India," said a statement issued by Mr Koirala's private secretariat, which further said that "when Nepal faces crisis, we always seek honest help from India".

Mr Koirala also said that he felt really impressed by the working of the Indian teams when he inspected the ongoing rescue efforts in the last three days, and that India's expertise, skill and experience in dealing with the quake would greatly help Nepal. Mr Koirala added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's response came as a huge relief for him during such a crisis.

Mr Koirala's statement came as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar arrived in Kathmandu on a day-long visit to assess the post-quake situation.

Mr Doval told Mr Koirala during a meeting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recalled the 2001 Gujarat Earthquake, which claimed 20,000 lives, immediately after learning that a 7.9-magnitude quake jolted Nepal last week, and took immediate steps for rescue and relief bid and sent rescue and relief materials to Nepal.

Mr Doval informed Mr Koirala that India was ready to assist Nepal at this moment of crisis while extending a condolence message sent by Mr Modi to Mr Koirala on behalf of the poeple and the government of India.

And some of the complaints they have are correct , an IAF plane which was taking survivors to safe location had media guys in there occupying 2-3 seats , again and again pointing their cameras to injured people with the reporter shouting at the top of his lungs.

Fact is without the constant Media coverage no one would have given a $hit about Nepal.

Its the constant Indian media coverage that has ensured prompt, efficient, effective and prolonged help from India. People tend to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Indian media is immature and insensitive and sells itself to the highest bidder, but its better than not having a multitude of media that compete for a good story.

Nepal is lucky this happened when Modi is in power, if it was MMS all we would have done is send a nominal aid package and wish them well. Same is true for Kedarnath.

But the popular public support and sympathy is due to the constant Media presence and coverage.

Indian mainstream media, especially TV news channels, is hardly known for nuances, and they appear to miss it even during tragedies. Media coverage of 2008 Mumbai Terror Attacks is the biggest example of their insensitive, irresponsible, and sensationalist reporting, which made a lot of people take to social media to register their protest.

And it seems, Indian media has not learnt its lessons ever since. Now they have been able to irritate and anger even non-Indians.

On Sunday, many Twitter users living in Nepal started hashtag #GoHomeIndianMedia to protest against such brand of reporting. Not only in Nepal, but this hashtag trended even in India.

From their tweets, it was obvious that the anger was against the sensationalist approach by media, and not against India:

Apart from insensitive (like asking injured persons ‘aapko kaisa lag raha hai’ type of questions) and sensationalist reporting, some users claimed that Indian media even ended up blocking relief operations and rescue work:
