Nepal president & PM meets Chinese Military Chief

Nepalese President Ram Baran Yadav met on March 24 in Kathmandu with Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and chief of general staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Chen Bingde is on a three-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, chief of staff of the Nepalese Army.

Yadav said that Nepal and China are neighbors, and the peoples of the two countries have a long history of exchanges. Nepal regards China as a reliable friend, feels gratitude for the understanding and support of the Chinese government, the Chinese people and the Chinese PLA to the social transformation in Nepal, and hopes to work with China to strengthen personnel exchanges at all levels, carry out pragmatic cooperation in a wider range and promote the development of Sino-Nepalese friendly cooperative relations.

Yadav reiterated Nepal's position on issues concerning Tibet, and said that the Nepalese side would continue to take effective measures to safeguard the common interests of the two nations.

Chen Bingde conveyed Chinese President Hu Jintao’s cordial greetings and good wishes to Yadav. Yadav asked Chen Bingde to convey his cordial greetings and thanks to President Hu Jintao.

Chen Bingde said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 56 years ago, the bilateral relations between China and Nepal have always maintained a healthy development, and set a model of equal treatment and peaceful coexistence of nations, no matter big or small.

China fully respects and supports Nepal’s efforts in maintaining national dignity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and fully respects the development road chosen by the Nepalese people. China’s support for Nepal is sincere and pragmatic, said Chen.

Chen Bingde told Yadav that Chinese side is willing to work with the Nepalese side to continue to expand cooperation between the two countries and the two militaries and enrich the contents of cooperation, so as to play an active role in realizing peace, stability and common development of the two countries, the region and the world.

Nepalese Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal met on March 24 in Kathmandu with Chen Bingde, member of the Central Military Commission (CMC) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and chief of general staff of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

Chen Bingde arrived in Kathmandu on March 23 and is on a three-day official visit to Nepal at the invitation of General Chhatra Man Singh Gurung, chief of staff of the Nepalese Army.

Khanal said that China is an important neighbor of Nepal, and since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have witnessed constantly deepened relations, continuously expanded cooperation and increasingly enhanced military exchanges between the two countries.

The Nepalese side feels sincere thanks for the selfless help offered by the Chinese side to the economic and social development of Nepal for a long time, and highly appreciates China’s understanding and support to Nepal during its peace process and the process of economic and social transformation, said Khanal.

Khanal told the Chinese guest that the new Nepalese government would continue to pursue the friendly China policy, and firmly support China’s consistent position on the issues concerning Tibet. Nepal will not allow any forces to conduct anti-China activities in Nepalese territory.

Chen Bingde expressed his congratulations on the establishment of new Nepalese government. He said that China attaches importance to developing an all-roundly cooperative partnership with Nepal based on ever-lasting friendly bilateral relations, and is willing to enhance mutual political trust, economic reciprocity, cultural exchange and mutual security assistance so as to serve the benefits of the two peoples.

Chen Bingde sincerely hoped that Nepal would continue to advance the hard-won peace process and achieve political stability and economic development as soon as possible.

Chen Bingde expressed thanks to the Nepalese side for its firm and valuable support to China on the issues concerning Tibet and Taiwan, noting that the Tibet issue concerns China's core interests and social stability of the two countries, thus requiring further strengthening cooperation between both sides.

Chen Bingde conveyed to Khanal congratulations and greetings from Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, and Khanal asked Chen Bingde to convey his thanks and greetings to Premier Wen Jiabao.

On the same day, Chen Bingde also met with Nepalese Defense Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, during which they exchanged views on strengthening defense cooperation between China and Nepal.
