I had a mail id with hotmail which I have not used in years.

Over the last few months I find mails generated from that account - mostly spam being sent out - even to me on my existing mail id.

It must be disturbing to those who recieve it & a nuisanace too.

Can somebody advise me how to cope with this prob ?Is there any way I canstop this spam mails being generated from this mail acct or delete my mail acct / id completely.

I had the same problem a couple of months back some one kept sending adds for viagra from my account. one of them actually went to my father and one of my female friend which was quite embarrasing.
Anyways coming back to orginal question. after i changed my password it stopped.
Hope it works out for you

Usually the hotmail account gets deleted after a certain period of time.

Try to access that email address, change password, if can't try forgot you password, if that does not work .......You may try to register it once again and see if you can do that or not. If you can register by usng the same details i am optimistic your problem will be solved

You can close the hotmail account.

In your inbox, click on you name at the right top near the sign out button.
That'll take you to the account page. There you have a link to close the account. If having trouble click on help and search for account close. You'll get step by step instructions.

Yes try "forget your password" and either change password or disable account.

Which account was that, ymail, gmail, hotmail, mail? Mail.com is famous for Viagra adds spamming.

Its very easy....Just follow the step by step procedure...

1. Select Options | More Options... from the Windows Live Hotmail toolbar.
2. Follow the Safe and blocked senders link under Junk e-mail.
3. Now click Blocked senders.
4. Type the undesired email address under Blocked e-mail address or domain:
You can block all addresses at a domain — the domain being what comes after the '@' sign in an email address — by entering just that.
5. Click Add to list >>.

There u go!!All the undesired contents are blocked..
Word of caution.Always regularly block spam messages else u will be compromising ur privacy/security..Dont provide ur email id on any untrusted site, specially the **** sites...

Hotmail/live has one of the highest levels of security. Many people use gmail these days, mainly due to the integrated services provided by google.U can also try rediff or in.com...These are good as well and provide lots of free services...:tup:
