Hi folks
I am creating this thread to discuss the need as well as possibility of Block 60 in PAF inventory.

Structure & Avionics

The Block 60 features an enormous amount of new capabilities. For one thing, the Fighting Falcon Block 60's range is extended with addition of fuselage mounted conformal fuel tanks and wing tanks, similar to the F-16ES and Block 50/52 Plus.

Secondly, the Northrop Grumman AN/ASQ-28 IFTS (Internal FLIR and Targeting System) replaces the pods in earlier aircraft. With state-of-the art components and packaging technology, the Internal FLIR Targeting System (IFTS) incorporates an advanced multi-functional FLIR/laser system into the F-16 nose to improve lethality and survivability with lower weight and drag and a laser targeting pod mounted underneath the fuselage. The elimination of bulky pods also enhances stealthiness.

Thirdly, there is an integrated electronic warfare suite with the Northrop Grumman 'Falcon Edge' internal electronic countermeasures system, the Northrop Grumman AN/APG-80 "Agile Beam Radar" with AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array), an electronic warfare management system, fiber-optic avionics data bus and up to eight chaff/flare dispensers, as well as advanced friend or foe. The aircraft's advanced avionics suite has room available for future improvements. The Block 60's modular mission computer has a processing throughput of 12.5 million instructions per second and provides sensor and weapons integration.

The ALQ-165 electronic countermeasures system, also known as the Airborne Self-Protection Jammer (ASPJ), is a sophisticated, high-power jamming system developed to fulfill both U.S. Navy and Air Force requirements - although the USAF abandonned the program a while ago. Missile warning systems on the Block 60 provide advanced warning of approaching missiles so the pilot can activate countermeasures in time. The Block 60 F-16 can accommodate both active and passive missile warning systems currently under development.

Any F-16 pilot can perform mission tasks with his head up and his eyes looking out of the cockpit and with his hands on the flight controls. The Block 60 adds to this excellent pilot-aircraft interface by incorporating three advanced 5-inch by 7-inch color displays. The aircraft has wiring and space allocated for a helmet-mounted cuing system that can be added to improve pilot situation awareness.

The Block 60 F-16 retains the full armament capability of the Block 50's and adds several new capabilities. The Block 60's basic design and weapon interfaces are compatible with projected future weapons including new air-to-air missiles such as the AIM-132 Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM). The aircraft will also support all-weather standoff weapons, such as the AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW), and AGM-84E Standoff Land Attack Missile (SLAM).

The Block 60 F-16 has been developed with planned growth improvements and technology advances in virtually all major areas, including engines, avionics, and weapons.

Right now only UAE operated Block 60 which is the most advance Falcon in World.

In my personal opinion instead of Buying J10b from China, better option is to buy Blk60 from Lookheed Martin.
If we are planning to increase number of F16 above 100 then there is decent room of 2 squadrons (36) of them. It will give great punch to PAF and make nice combo of Thunders and Falcons..............

Block 60 are particularly for UAE ...US don't makes these gadgets now especially its radar is out of production ..

Although we can upgrade our F16 to 'V' standard .... which do comes with AESA radar(raytheon RACR or Grumman SABR) , new ECM, data linking and enhance capabilities

F16 V do equal with F16 block 60

F16 V do equal with F16 block 60

Only if V standard were out when we made the deal, it could've been gigantic

Once our own fighter jet program gets AESA radar , which we will. After that we can evaluate the need for
investing more funds into Block 60 program.

The plane is too expensive with out TOT involved

When you have option for Sukhoi-35 and J10B , its very difficult to choose F16 Block 60

Its better to get the avionics (new mission computer, new electronic warfare system, Internal FLIR and Targeting System), radar (APG-79) & weapons (AIM-9X & AIM-120D) upgrade for the existing F-16s.

This is our present and future

Radar
Queing system / weapons lock on
Situational awareness
Engine improvements

All modular

Or Sukhoi-35 purchase

The price tag on Block 60 is too much for a plane origionally designed for 80's almost 40 years old

Never gonna happen. USA will never sell us those our best bet is that if can get two new squadrons of BLOCK 52 from USA and few old from other countries. We need a third 4.5th Generation platform if we can get SU-35 we should go for 3 squadrons at least. 270 JF-17 126 F-16 and 54 SU-35 should be the way forward

No way USA will Allow UAE to Give these to PAF + the plane is too much Expensive why not buy Block 52...

There is neither the need nor the possibility of F-16's block 60 for PAF.

PAF is not interested in acquiring anymore F-16's with " KILL SWITCHES ".

PAF is on the right track in acquiring Aircraft which come with Transfer of Technology from China.

The next acquisition would be 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft.

The next acquisition would be 5th Generation Fighter Aircraft.

Pakistaniage

You have made that statement without understanding that a 5th generation fighter in PAF is financially improbable and least a decade away.

The j31 IS one single prototype so dont hold your breadth

Even J20 is over 5 years away from full PLAAF service.

SO imo PAF will look for used second hand F16s again especially now India has nearly 220 OPERATIONAL SU30MKI ALREADY

Bhai if we buy better invest on more powerfull fighter jet like SU 35

F 16 blk 60 is 58 mil
SU 35 is 65 mil
Better go with SU 35 which is superior to F 16 in all aspects

With more F 16 our airforce will be one dimensional force

F 16 has no future get rid of mental block of F 16

Disagree.
When F22 was in developmental phase, it was stated that F16,F15,F18 will be obsolete by 2000.
But it didn't happened.
F16 emerged as blk 50/52
F15 as silent eagle
F18 as super hornet
These three plate forms are so decent and so balanced that they can easily evolve with time....
All these three will continue to rule the skies after 2020 If there new blocks continue to emerge.........

For Pakistan, F-16 is the symbol of national pride and is still very potent aircraft. However Su-35 is equally good and should be procured due to its long range capability.
