SANLIURFA, Turkey

Nearly one-third of Turkey’s rocket-resistant concrete wall being built along the border with Syria has been completed, Turkish security sources told Anadolu Agency Thursday.

Out of the 911-kilometer (559.2-mile) long planned wall, 300 kilometers (186.4 miles) is complete, sources said.

Turkish Interior Ministry gave nearly 250 million Turkish liras to governorates of border provinces of Sirnak, Mardin, Sanliurfa, Kilis, Gaziantep and Hatay for the construction of the wall, sources said.

So far, the wall along Hatay and Sanliurfa has been mostly completed.

The wall, which is expected to get completed next year, will be two-meter wide and three-meter high with seven-ton modular concrete blocks.

According to the same sources, razor wire fences would also be placed along the border.

Among other security measures planned along Turkey’s border with Syria are ditches along the 365-kilometer (226.8-mile) stretch in Turkey's Gaziantep, Kilis, Mardin, Sanliurfa and Hatay provinces.

The measures include illumination along 389-kilometer (241.7-mile) border fields, wire fences along 161 kilometers (100 miles) and renewing wires along at another 145-kilometer (90-mile) long stretch.

Patrol points are also planned at every 50 meters and checkpoints of watch guards along the border would also be reinforced.

Security forces will patrol the border 24 hours and surveillance cameras with night vision capability will also be installed at some strategic points, sources said.

Pakistan needs a similar wall alongside pak afghan border companied with land mines. It will be the best way to keep those afghan and Indian sponsored scums to kepp out. We should also install remote weapons points at some crucial places in order to shred those terorists scums

so now makeit till armenia and everything is fine

Well I hope this serves as a Pimp slap across the face of anyone that says wall cannot be built of afghan border! at least build where it is possible to build it!

The problem in our case is the border is 2500 km long and at high altitude ranging from 6k to 12k above sea level altitude making it very difficult.

There was before a minefield which solved this problem, look at those Walls, you just need a ladder and can climb over it, it´s a good Joke.

In normal circumstances i would say that there would be regular patrols and observation towers, but after the the T-155 fiasco, i agree with you.

this wall is against refugees not against terrorist or smugglers..

if they would want to do something against the smugglers and terrorists then they should mine the whole area around the wall except some entracnes wich are under control with an outpost

Turkey to establish smart towers on Syrian border

As a part of measures to increase security on its border with Syria, Turkey will build smart military towers that can warn and fire automatically

Turkish Defense Ministry said that it plans to establish a smart tower every 300 meters along the border with Syria to prevent illegal crossing.

Turkey has already sealed hundreds of kilometers of the border, either with concrete blocks or wire fencing.

In the border city of Kilis, the construction of a concrete wall is nearly complete as the ministry started to build smart watch towers at 300-meter intervals.

The towers will be integrated with a computerized system that would feature a 3-language alarm system and automated firing systems.

Turkish military technology manufacturer ASELSAN will install the high-tech program, including machine guns, thermal cameras, and alert systems that will be activated if any element comes within 300 meters of the border line.

A speaker from the tower will warn the element or person in three languages to leave the area immediately. It the element doesn't leave the area, an automated machine gun will start firing at it.

Mines become a huge problem later on; especially if the Turkish military decides to mobilize or deploy into Syria/Iraq. During the Indo-Pak 2002 standoff; India lost around 1000 soldiers trying to de-mine the border.
