BEIJING: Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Masood Khan asserted that Pakistan aspires that one of its astronauts flies to space in a Chinese spacecraft.

“This is possible because Pakistan and China enjoy amiable relations embedded in trust and confidence,” Masood Khan said in an interview ahead of the launch of Pakistan’s communication satellite, Paksat-1R.

The satellite is due to be launched from Xichang in China in the second week of August. Paksat-1R will replace Paksat-1 which is likely to complete its useful life this year.

“Launching of a communication satellite is going to be a symbolic development in Pakistan-China relations, as this will broaden the horizons of our cooperation,” Khan said.

China has already helped Pakistan build its main nuclear power facility at Chashma in Punjab province, where one reactor is running and another near finished, and it has contracts to build two more there, despite the qualms of other governments.

Qiu Jiangang, vice president of the China National Nuclear Corp (CNNC), told a meeting in Beijing that the company was already looking beyond those deals to an even bigger plant.

"Both sides are in discussions over the CNNC exporting a one-gigawatt nuclear plant to Pakistan," he said

Nuclear endeavors have been prospering well, right since those 70s. However, success in space has eluded us for long, in terms of being par with international and regional developments. I really hope, we get going in this arena too...

one reason for this is that there is immense political pressure trying to stop us from making long range rocket (Space launch system) as it will make a ICBM that Israel cannot afford. many European nations wont be happy as well.
i hope is PTI comes into power in this election, we will get rid of foreign aids and thus foreign restriction will also go. this will surely help!

yes, but they are not announced till now and under current political scenario where we are highly dependent on foreign aid money there are little chances that this will announced. we have already developed a 2 stage missile and increasing range to make it an ICBM wont take such long time. it is the international pressure that is causing the problem.
once government will decide that we are to go ahead with the launch, it will be a matter of months only!

Pak satellite PakSat-1R launched from China

Pakistan's PakSat-1R geostationary communications satellite was on Thursday launched into space by a Chinese rocket from a site in southwest China.

The satellite was carried into space by a Long March-3B rocket from Xichang Satellite launch center in Sichuan province late on Thursday night.

PakSat-1R was built by scientists and engineers from Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission with technical guidance and financial aid from China National Space Administration.

The launch was witnessed by a group of Pakistani officials; including Strategic Plans Division chief Lt Gen (retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, Pakistan's Ambassador to China Masood Khan and SUPARCO chief Maj Gen Ahmed Bilal.

The satellite carries a communication payload to facilitate the launch of a several new services, including broadband Internet, digital television broadcasts, remote and rural telephony, emergency communications, tele-education and tele-medicine.

PakSat-1R is expected to have a lifespan of 15 years and will be operated from SUPARCO's satellite ground stations in Lahore and Karachi. Speaking after the launch, SPD chief Kidwai expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for supporting Pakistan in space technology.

Foreign Secretary Bashir said, "The successful launch is yet another shining illustration of the time-tested friendship between Pakistan and China and has ushered in a new era of cooperation in space technology between the two countries." The Launch of the PAKSAT 1R was part of Pakistan Space Program 2040.

After the successful launch of PAKSAT 1R, the next target of Pakistan Space Program 2040 will be the launch of Remote Sensing Satellite System (RSSS)

Remote Sensing Satellite System
Pakistan plan to launch its first indigenous RSSS in 2011. After the success of BADR series of experimental satellites, BADAR 1 and 2, Pakistan now plans to launch high resolution remote sensing satellite system (RSSS) for satellite imagery. The BADR family of satellite was all Low Earth Observational satellites that can take low resolution low quality images of the earth. BADR-II carried Earth Imaging Payload on experimental basis which was a success. The primary use was experimental base, it provided the scientists with necessary know how to develop space satellites. Moreover, they are also useful to take images of earth with lesser resolution that can be used to monitor crop areas, forest area, flood damage etc.

According to some points released from SUPARCO, the space program 2040 intends to the launch of many more satellites from 2011 to 2040. The earliest on this series will be an optical satellite planned to be launched in 2011, (one communication satellite PAKSAT 1-R has already been launched in 2011 and have been discussed here).

The stated goals of the program are to expected gain significant experience in satellite development, practicing of Space medicine, and to promote socio-economic sector in the country.[1] While, the program intend to learn to developed the military and space technologies and to conduct experiments on fundamental sciences in space frontier, the Government maintained that Space Programme-2040's prime purpose to bring the benefits of the full spectrum of space technology to the people of Pakistan.

According to Suparco, five GEO satellites and six LEO satellites will be launched in between 2011 till 2040.

the first satellite PAKSAT 1-R has been launched as per plan. this first GEO satellite of the 5 planned in Space program 2040 is also reported to be carrying some experimental payload for future projects, some sources hint toward a SAR!
the next satellites under development include:
Paksat-MM1
Paksat-MM2
Paksat-II
all these will be GEO satellites.

Suparco plans to launched her first Optical satellite in the end year of 2011 from People's Republic of China. The satellite is reported to have payload of 2.5 meter PAN in 700km in SSO. It is the first satellite that is locally manufactured by the Suparco and to meet the national and international user requirements in the field of satellite imagery.

Other then this,the space program also have clearly announced the future Remote Sensing Satellite projects. There are six remote sensing satellites are expected to be developed and launched under this program. Suparco is intending to launch her first remote sensing satellite in 2014 and it is named as PRSS-O1. According to Suparco, the planned and manufactured satellites are list below:
