I dont think Nawaz is sucking on India in any of the Statements he made.
Most of Pakistan's problems can be traced back to Pakistan Army's constant need to fight India - even the mundane ones like electricity deficit.

Nawaz has clearly outlined that he intends to make sure that Pakistan's relations with India improves measurably. Statements like he would come to India even if he was not invited are meant to convey that he will make sure and will surmount the obstacles placed against him by Pakistan Army or even Indian Government.

Such statements are not be taken literally but metaphorically.
This to be honest puts him in a category called a leader and visionary, one who has the ability to foresee and surmount obstacles.

Consider Pakistan's position at the moment -
crisis of electricity
crisis of terrorism
crisis of foreign policy
crisis of bad relations with all neighbours bar China.
crisis of economic stagnation
crisis of health care

Now consider if Nawaz manages to achieve measurable success in relations with India -
- Electricity crisis can be immediately reduced. Atleast Punjab - Nawaz's constituency and Pakistan's most productive region - will have better days.
- Economic spurt in Punjab on account of electricity available for production and Punjab being the most important state of Pakistan.
- On account of better relations with India, India guarentee'ing a non aggression pact - Pakistan would be able to move more soldiers from its eastern border to insurgency hit areas.
- Reduced military budget - almost all development schemes in Pakistan are stagnating on account of funding problems.
- Reduced influence of Pakistan military on issues other than defence related ones.


These points alone merit that Nawaz is taking a correct path and would help a lot in pulling Pakistan back from the path it is on. This deserves to be commended not ridiculed.

Your whole basis for the post is wrong i.e Army meddling everywhere.

The Army has much more serious problems to look towards to than fighting with India.

Sucking up to India will not give us a huge amount of electricity that will get the industry running.

Anyway, let's agree to disagree, I am not in a mental state to have a long debate right now, too tired.

Politicians all over the world are the same, the promise a lot during elections, but what counts is, what they really can provide after the they were elected! So wait and see is possibly the best we can do.

you might have misunderstood, I wanted to know are there any key differences between nawaz sharif govt and the previous one when it comes to foreign policy especially vis a vis US, China, EU, India, Gulf states, It wasn't directed to antagonize anyone's sentiment or to poke my nose in any internal affairs. Just general education.

Let us face the facts; with the on-going war against TTP, Pakistan is not in a position to fight war with another country at this point of time. COAS Gen Kayani also admits that real threat to Pakistan’ security is from within: meaning Al Qaeda, TTP & the sectarian parties.

Rhetoric aside, there is little doubt that shooting down drones risks US response. It may not be as direct military confrontation but at least in the form of economic sanctions. Consequences for economic sanctions against Pakistan under the current already precarious economic conditions would be disastrous to say the least. Thus there may some truth in the fact that because Imran Khan blurted out his resolve to order military to shoot down US drones that he lost so heavily in Punjab.

PPP party gov’t was incapable of taking any tough decisions because it depended upon her coalition partners to survive. Don’t know if it is by design or by the real will of Pakistanis, Nawaz is in a position gov’t without any help and laws unpalatable to other parties can be pushed thru the National Assembly.

The next gov’t will no doubt be soft on India as well on the US drones. In my view not a bad thing in today’s conditions as priority must be to stabilize Pakistan’s deteriorating economy. Being an industrialist himself, NS policies will obviously favour industrial growth as one of the key factors for improving economic situation. I have read that the care taker gov’t has already raised the GST and also price of electricity. Unpleasant decisions but had to be taken. Don’t think Nawaz Sharif will reverse these.

As already stated in many posts, Litmus test is the resolution of energy crisis and the circular debt and stopping the drain on the national exchequer by the white elephants such as Steel Mill, Railways, PIA & WAPDA; else economy cannot grow. Incoming government has to take the bull by the horn.

Tackling Law & Order situation is equally important. Let us hope that in an effort to improve investment climate; Rana Sana Ullah can reign in sectarian attacks, at least in Punjab.

Finally, I am deeply disappointed by the PTI 'dharanas'. In NA 125 decision has already been taken, PTI should accept it with good grace. Impeding the fair election process which includes freedom to canvass; is also “Dhandly” or rigging. PTI should realize that their success in the KPK owes a lot to the fact that TTP were bombing NAP election rallies & killing ANP candidates. PTI were on the other hand was free to conduct election rallies and canvass for votes.

It appears that PTI, like other parties, are sore losers and only accept Election result if it is in their favour.

fair assessment sir but in the past NS has had a 2/3rd majority but couldnt pass tough legislation thru parliament. what makes it different this time around is a Q which cannot be answered today but in a 100 days we will know which direction NS is going to steer this country.

if he continues his 'witch hunt' of the army's past then the hurdles unfortunately will be difficult to surmount. if he dosnt tax the industrialists, traders and agriculturists then we are not going anywhere soon. the begging bowl will be open for alms.

if this country truly wants to progress economically and become an asian tiger then hard tough decisions are the order of the day. generating / mobilising own resources instead of aid is the path to self reliance, integrity and honour but do we pakistanis understand these values and do we understand how important these are to us.....

Sir, there will be no witch hunt. There will be no major taxation or policy changes. We will continue to defer the tough hard decisions no matter how overdue. And our path to self reliance, integrity and honor will remain as elusive as looking for the yellow brick road.
