Wish him a steady recovery , and regardless of the court cases I hope a meaninful resolution comes forward on his financial dealings (court cases)
He did some positive work which can't be deined (Metro project, CPEC fast track , energy projects , cooperation with KPK gov to give them funds for development)
I view his financial dealing in context of certain "special" cases he faced which lead to his exile etc, it would be interesting to ask a question would he have done certain hastly financial moves if he was not exiled so it is a very tricky question. How to judge someone when they were kicked out once before and I am sure they moved some assets out of country
But I expect the court cases to be reflection of Justice system of Pakistan, PM should gracefully step down and continue his retirement
The courts
must also look at the circumstances which lead to his exile which may have forced the man to move certain assets out for insurance policy
It is very hard to tax someone's income if they themselves (kids) do not live in Pakistan for 10-20 years
Personally if the courts deems only a Financial fine on his sons and exempt him I would not have a problem with that decision.
Or even if he is asked to step down
I will still regard his contribution to Pakistan in positive light last 3-4 years
Since NRO was in place , which was the main reason why he came back to Pakistan I think he should get exempted for flaws of past system (Exile and ousting etc)
- More got done in last 3-4 years then in Zardari's time and that is Nawaz's legacy
I would have had a bigger respect for him had he been more friendly with Musharaf Sahib who also did wonderful work during his term in most critical time for Pakistan.
I am
quite neutral on Nawaz Sharif now
- If I was the judge , I would have imposed a hefty fine however would have given some consideration for his past Exile (which technically was illegal).
- NRO = Does gives him some protection and under 2007-2008 accord he would have been exempted, and under NRO provision he would have been given ok to continue and finish his term
- Also worthy of noting the man came back to serve the people , only after NRO promised him no harassment over issues from 10-20 years ago which is exactly what happened contrary to the NRO initiative
Similarly I do wish Mr Musharaf Sahib to be allowed to live peacefully in Pakistan with no harassment from local political bodies
