Navy Gets First Kolkata-class Destroyer Today, Commissioning Soon

. .
Where the Barak-1 VLS at? Do we really need them? I would think Barak-2/8 can handle both long & short-range
targets.

. . . .
Hate that old radar!
I agree, the Thales LW-08 does stick out but it is a pretty decent radar for what it is.

Would have preferred the EL/M-2238 STAR from Elta like the Shivlaik class has.

The P-15B will come with the EL/M-2238 and the P-15As will likely get it when they undergo their next major refit.

Not the EL/M-2238, the "B" will come with the RAN-40L most probably.

I like Shivalik the most when it comes to looks.

Mh, just by looks I also would go with the Kolkata class, but compared to foreign stealth designs, there is still a lot to improve.

I was thinking that too, even the P-17As are set to get the RAN-40L along with the IAC-1 but considering SELEX is a subsidiary of Finmeccanica I'm now not so confident...

I really like the P-17's looks, only issue with it is the cluttered mast, P-17As with this corrected should look stunning:

RBU-6000 is a continuous problem, it must be possible to integrate tham in a better design, just like other antennas.

That's not exactly an official render but it might be close to what we get at the end, integrated masts most probably, flush decks not so sure about.

The IN is looking for some commonality in its fitments so it shouldn't come as a surprise if they settle on the RAN sensor across various platforms. Don't worry about the OEM or its affiliations, money is money.

Agreed, the look out of place and an eyesore on that P-17A render.

Don't they have the Elta radars already?

Country s most potent indigenous warship joins service this month - SP's Naval Forces

The ship's heart, its primary sensor is the IAI EL/M-2248 MF-STAR AESA multi-function radar, in addition to being fitted with the IAI EL/M-2238 L-band STAR surveillance radar, BEL HUMSA-NG bow sonar, BEL Nagin active towed array sonar, BEL Electronic Modular Command & Control Applications (EMCCA Mk4) combat management system and the Thales LW-08 D-band air search radar.

It is a very capable ship that will do the Indian Navy proud.
