Here is a report in the wiki. The Cutter indeed will be supplied to Bangladesh Navy by May this year and will be renovated in our local shipyard before being commissioned in October. People are weary about wiki. So, let us trust it until a modified information is received. However, I wonder what real purpose this Cutter will serve. Will the BN use this Cutter to make expeditions to the South Pole and raise the BD flag there? Note, its range is 16,000 miles.

USCGC Jarvis (WHEC-725) is a United States Coast Guard Hamilton-class high endurance cutter based out of Honolulu, Hawaii. Launched April 24, 1971 at Avondale Shipyard near New Orleans, Louisiana, she was commissioned August 4, 1972 in Honolulu. She received a $55 million FRAM upgrade at Todd Pacific Shipyards in Seattle, Washington between July 1990 and December 1992.[1]

The ship was named for David H. Jarvis, a hero of the United States Revenue Cutter Service. During the harsh winter of 1897-1898, Lieutenant Jarvis of the US Revenue Cutter Bear led the Overland Relief Expedition to bring needed food to 265 whalers whose ships had been stranded in the ice off the northern coast of Alaska.[2]

Jarvis completed her final cruise in late September 2012, and was removed from active service the following week. Admiral Cecil D. Haney (Cmdr US Pacific Fleet) said that the Jarvis is scheduled to be transferred to Bangladesh in mid 2013.[3] A team of US Coast Guard personnel visited Bangladesh in February 2013 for a definitization meeting. The first group of Bangladesh Navy personnel, consisting of 7 officers and 13 sailors, left Bangladesh in February and will start training onboard Jarvis starting on March 13, 2013. It is expected that the cutter will be transferred to Bangladesh on May 22 and, and after renovation, she will be commmissioned into the Bangladesh Navy on October 11 2013.

Will it be renovated in our local shipyard? If so, our shipyard will achieve some extraordinary skills of fitting a 3000 ton ship with all the teeth and equipments required. Probably it'll be sent to China for renovation...does anyone have confirmed news on this renovation location?

Well, this cutter will get a massive refit in our own shipyard with help of china. It will be called as a frigate, and logically its range will decrease because of weapons weight.

The S.korean corvetee is news to me. Also it talks about 4 subs 2 song & Yuan class. If all this is true we will have a pretty strong navy. I think our Navy need to concentrate on anti-sub warfare along with offensive sub fleet, off course if the purse allows it.

I think all this could come true

BD seems to be planning to spend greater resources purchasing naval arms as opposed to either army or air-force.

The reason could be due to the fact that the country seems to want to have the strongest Navy possible in order to be able to protect it's claims on the Bay of Bengal.

AF is vital. Without it there won't be any ground and naval support. Navy and army will be sitting ducks then with our air space defenseless. A superb AF, a strong Navy and an army mastered in guerilla warfare should be the way for BD. Couple of 100s light tanks along with 1000s of APC should suffice.

I think the BD army is quiet strong as far as defending the land is concerned. It has hundreds of tanks(MBT-2000 and upgraded Type-69s) that are able to knock out any tank in India's inventory.

The major weakness is the air-force.

Fundamental problem is that BD does not have enough money to modernise both the navy and the air-force at the same time and seems to have decided to spend more on navy than air-force.

That's why the limited resources should be concentrated in AF followed by Navy and army. Even though I don't like russian , but since BAL made deal for Yaks, I think now we should go for Su35. Its a must IMO. And then when BAL will be ousted we can start thinking about a single engine medium fighter like F16, JF17 or J10. Su35 will be our heavy twin engine Air superiority and long range bomber.

And yes Defence spending should be increased to at least 2.5% over the next 10 years if modernization goals is to be met.

What? trust me, numbers don't win you battles. 2.5k tanks for Bangladesh will be useless. Invest that money in navy and AF instead. We need to cut our cloth according to our needs.

my first priority is improving skill of BD army personnel like US or other elite soldiers with advance equipments.

J-10B will be the best air-defence fighter for BD as it will come it at around 40 million per plane and will be on a par with the Euro-canards in term of capabilities IMO.
