What's new

Nato helicopters violate Pakistan’s border limits (Again)

Wont a GPS give you your position within 4 meters of accuracy? And a military one within 1 meter?
Then why Friendly fire incidents happen even inside US forces. ?? When everyone knows other position with accuracy of 1 meter??

. .
Kind of unrelated. Identifying you location is very different from accidently shooting at the blue force.
How unrelated. When they know with accuracy of 1 meter then how come they shoot each other.

There is always chance of error.

Anyway a military professional can clear the GPS issue. Do GPS have international boundry drawn on it..?? Because i my self never tried GPS standing on Afghan Pakistan Border.

They know where they are.. Not where rest of the army is.. And such errors happen when the communication breaks down between 2 units. Not because of not knowing where you are..

I for one dont think it was a mistake...

.
Did any one think perhaps the "Unknown source" might have been the one in the wrong spot? Perhaps he was 600m inside Afghanistan?
Are you saying we made an outpost inside Afghanistan.....

I don't understand was that a joke or serious post.

.
Dude. When flying sometimes you don't know where exactly your position is. The mountains look same. No boundry wall. So its hard to tell from up there where are we. On the other hand The outpost on the ground knows which hill is in Pakistani Territory and which in Afghanistan territory.

Get some basic knowledge then comeback.

So you are trying to tell me that a copter pilot finds out his position by looking at mountains???? Is this basic knowledge that you want me to learn????

I for once can understand if you say the border area is not demarcated(which is not waht the article is saying) and the map that NATO pilots were following suggests that they were well in AF boundary but atleast don't give me BS....

I didnt read any thing about the observation being made from an outpost. I was asuming a foot patrol spotted the copters, being a foot patrol is it really that difficult to be on hilll 251b rather than hill 251a and make a mistake about the location of an aircraft by a few hundred metres?

. .
are you really going to ask a silly question like that?
Does not sound silly to me though and in fact the questions raised are legitimate....Lot of members were bragging about how NATO copters will be shot down in case there is another Air-space violations but now when it happened people are trying to put it under the carpet by giving all the theories about terrain and other stuff....Even if all of that is right there was a violation of Air-space, now may i ask what action was/is taken???.......Anyways lets see what explanation you have....

in many ways, yes......even a local tribesman could, because of familiarity with the geography, and landmarks
What??? We are not talking about a foot soldier here who is lost and have no bloody clue where the hell he is...Yes, had that been the case i totally agree local tribesman will have much better idea.....

many people criss-cross every day. NATO's only been around for less than a decade in foreign territory. We know these lands like back of our hand, as it is our backyard
Now you are confusing me....600 meters and 10 min is not such a small incident which makes you believe that it was a genuine mistake...

Now ofcourse if the media is exagarrating then my guess is as good as yours....

10 minutes does seem awfully long....hopefully more information would come out soon. Until then, all this discussion is mere speculation
Exactly and since it has been reported by Dawn which is a leading Pakistani newspaper i took the nes on face value....However as i know that media sensationalize i out in my disclaimers and clearly called out if this news is assumed to be true then how will members explain their earlier about SAMS will take care of any future incursions....

most professional approach is to wait for information before reaching any conclusions
If you have read my comments you would have seen that i specifically said that "if indeed this news is correct"

zardari party is gonna shred into pieces, their reputation has gone hell done 10000000000000000 times and its like PPP will not see another day light, after their term is once over this time.. this roti kapra makaan party has given nothing and compromised on every thing, including pakistan soverignty

I never said they look at the mountains for navigation. All i am saying is its difficult to spot the border. There is no clear line drawn there so 600 Meter is easy mistake to make.

Get some basic knowledge on how things are done on Afghanistan Pakistan border.

.
I've honestly stopped caring.

Only when we get an Abrahams tank brigade coming down the khyber pass will our duplicitous army give a hoot about its soil.

By then, I imagine, they'll try and rouse the tribals into a "jihad" against the invaders and save their own skins.

Spineless.

Why dont Pakistan shoot down one or two of their gunships? Whats stopping PAF?
