This is not a happy news at all. Recently captured images by NASA suggest that portions of Antarctica and Greenland are disappearing at an alarming rate, contrary to earlier prophecies. NASA believes that sea levels will register a rise as steep as one meter, carrying a very real threat to Australia's coastal cities which can entirely vanish from the map. And it will only take some 100 to 200 years for this to happen.

NASA also reveals that Australia can witness far worse flash floods in future. Yes, more worse than the one that hit Brisbane over four years ago. Because if the sea level rise, so will the risk of storm surges. This will increase the likelihood of coastal flooding, and since most Australians inhabit the coastline, they will be first ones to feel the massive impact.

The sea level rise is a direct consequece of melting glaciers and ice. NASA states that the melting Greenland ice sheet is the root of all problem, and has already shed around 303 gigatons of ice perennially, over the last 10 years. Likewise, the Antarctic ice sheet shed almost 118 gigatons every year.

NASA, in an attempt to perhaps push the deadline of doomsday farther ahead in to the future, has now embarked upon the OMG mission. And we believe the name couldn't have been better.

The Oceans Melting Greenland (aka OMG) mission will map 1.7 million sq meter of ice sheet, which NASA believes is as big as Queensland. With a depth of 1.6 km, if it melts, it can raise the sea level by as much as six meters,; which sounds worse than the end of the world itself.

This image shows the ocean depths off the Greenland west coast, captured by a sonar aboard the research ship, that's a part of the mission. The OMG mission will study how ocean currents and temperatures affect Greenland from below, and will try to figure the exact speed at which the ice will raise the sea levels.

To put everything in perspective, watch this animated map of the world, disappearing into a sea of blue.

Watch how Mumbai and Calcutta make a disturbing appearance, slowly vanishing into the bottom of the vast oceanic expanse:

This, right here, is not a comforting image at all.

where is bangladesh the current superpower of cricket?

I heard Mangroves can save our coastal cities.

Not only the coastal cities of India ....almost all coastal cities ....Dubai, Hongkong, New york,Shanghai, Singapore....etc.etc. will not exist ...

So, basically Kolkata , Mumbai and our coastal states will not survive to c the day when Hindus and Muslim will be equall ( Population wise ) in India .

This picture is an artistic impression about sea level rise if all the ice in the world including Greenland and Antarctic iceshield melt away into the sea.Which will rise sea level 60 meters. But it is impossible as long as the Antarctica remain in south pole.East Antarctic ice shield which contain 85 percent of global ice is so cold that it can't melt even with massive rise of temperature in global warming.Temperature there are -70 to -80 degree celsius. It's melting is only possible if you somehow put Antarctica closer to equator.

Even 60 meters sea rise can't submerge entire BD.Northern Rangpur division and Chittagong hill tract are above 60 meters. It will submerge arount 80 percent land of BD.Realistic possible scenario is 1 to 2 meter sea rise if global warming become that bad as claimed by the proponent. All we need is to built 400-500 km long sea wall from sundarban to Noakhali area.I hope India will provide us another 2 billion dollar credit if it ever become necessary.:lol:
