Naila Jaffri refuses government aid as a protest on Sajjan Jindal's arrival in Pakistan She decided to forego the financial support she was about to get from the government as a protest.

She said that she had applied to get help from President Mamnoon Hussain’s Artist Welfare Fund and a cheque of rupees 500,000 is in the process of being issued to her but she will no longer accept it since the government has allowed an Indian tycoon in Pakistan with a no-police-inquiry visa.

“I cannot accept a dime from the government that entertains people from the very country that has been plotting against us our interests and our people,” she told The Express Tribune in a telephonic conversation while referring to Indian tycoon Sajjan Jindal’s recent arrival in Pakistan.

A well-known Pakistani television and theatre artist has refused to accept government assistance of 5 lakh rupees for the treatment of her ovarian cancer in protest against the visit of an Indian steel tycoon to the country.

Naila Jafri, who has acted in several memorable plays, was due to receive a cheque of 500,000 rupees from President Mamnoon Hussain's Artist Welfare Fund, but she has now turned down the assistance.

She said she had applied for the grant and the cheque has been processed and was to be delivered to her in a few days.

"But now I cannot accept a dime from the government that entertains people from the very country that has been plotting against us our interests and our people," she told the Express Tribune newspaper today, referring to the visit of Sajjan Jindal to Pakistan and his meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

She was a great actress!!

Today i came to know she is a great human being and a Pakistani as well. It is unfortunate that she have to go through all what she is facing right now. May she recover soon.

By the way, it is reported that the news of her in need of financial support were a bit exaggerated and she did came forward with clarification regarding her health condition as well which was a good news. She did remained open to the government assistance as the treatment is worth millions. However the situation is not as bad as portrayed on social media (as usual). I hope she is fine soon and we get to see more of her.
