ust mere mentioning of such claim by Myanmar should be considered as outrageous & an act of “ Humiliation ” by our Government.
Unless Bangladesh acquires military strength/ superiority, such threats will persist. All our diplomacy have failed miserably, particularly the Think Tanks have misled the Government. It is high time we become serious and change our orientation. Harping all the time on old glories ( We are the greatest fighting nation ) will lead to suicidal consequences for us.
Myanmar has clearly displayed neglect & intransigence towards a very modest & moderate Muslim neighbour / country like Bangladesh. They have done the same to the world with regard to the extremely critical Rohingya problem, thrust upon us.
In the light of the above the Bangladesh Military should shed off all their ceremonial activities & concentrate only on operational activities. As usual bringing some kind of ” Pretexts “ or blaming others in not becoming real battle worthy would be self defeating & deceiving.
We must come out of our Peace Time Chocolate Cream mentality & strait way change into High Profile Sharp Shooter mentality or else one day we will be solely blamed for the debacle & by that time it will be too late to defend the sovereignty earned at a very high price through the Liberation War.
সেন্টমার্টিন দ্বীপের মালিকানা দাবি মিয়ানমারের, রাষ্ট্রদূতকে তলব
বাংলাদেশের সেন্টমার্টিন দ্বীপের একটি অংশকে মিয়ানমার নিজেদের বলে দাবি করেছে। এ দাবির প্রেক্ষিতে ঢাকায় নিযুক্ত দেশটির রাষ্ট্রদূত উ লুইন ও-কে তলব করা হয়েছে। শনিবার (৬ অক্টোবর) তাকে পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ে তলব করে এই বিষয়ে বাংলাদেশের পক্ষ থেকে তীব্র প্রতিবাদ জানানো হয়।
পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয় সূত্র জানায়, কক্সবাজারের সর্বদক্ষিণে নাফ নদীর মোহনায় বঙ্গোপসাগরের দ্বীপ ইউনিয়ন সেন্টমার্টিনের একটি অংশ মিয়ানমারের বলে তাদের সরকারের কয়েকটি ওয়েবসাইটে দাবি করা হয়েছে। এমনকি দ্বীপের মানুষজনকেও দাবি করা হয়েছে মিয়ানমারের।
বিষয়টি জানতে পেরে ঢাকায় নিযুক্ত দেশটির রাষ্ট্রদূত উ লুইনকে তলব করে পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়। এরপর তার হাতে কূটনৈতিক প্রতিবাদপত্র ধরিয়ে দেন পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের মেরিটাইম অ্যাফেয়ার্স ইউনিটের প্রধান অ্যাডমিরাল (অব.) মো. খুরশেদ। একইসঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের পক্ষ থেকে এই ঘটনার তীব্র প্রতিবাদও জানানো হয়।
বাংলাদেশের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, সেন্টমার্টিন কখনোই মিয়ানমারের অংশ ছিল না। এমনকি ব্রিটিশ আমলেও এটা মিয়ানমারের অংশে পড়েনি। ১৯৩৭ সালে মিয়ানমার যখন ব্রিটিশ-ভারত থেকে ভাগ হয়ে যায়, তখনো এই দ্বীপ মিয়ানমারের মধ্যে ছিল না। মিয়ানমার কিসের ভিত্তিতে এই দ্বীপের অংশ তাদের বলে দাবি করছে তা রাষ্ট্রদূতের কাছে জানতে চাওয়া হয় পররাষ্ট্র মন্ত্রণালয়ের পক্ষ থেকে।
বৈঠকে উপস্থিত এক কর্মকর্তা বলেন, মিয়ানমার সরকারের জনসংখ্যা বিষয়ক বিভাগের ওয়েবসাইট সম্প্রতি তাদের দেশের যে মানচিত্র প্রকাশ করেছে, তাতে সেন্টমার্টিনকে তাদের ভূখণ্ডের অংশ দেখানো হয়। এ বিষয়ে মিয়ানমার রাষ্ট্রদূতকে প্রশ্ন করেছি, তিনি বলেছেন, ভুলক্রমে এটা হতে পারে
