My job is done if India-Pakistan ties normalize: Manmohan

Even today if war breaks out, we will not fear, but I can't say about south Indians how much guts they have.

If you want to rule then learn to use the gun also..

You might remember Field Marshall K. M. Cariappa - the hero of first Kashmir War. (The only other Field Marshall in IA was FM Sam Manekshaw).

So before uttering any such divisive belittling comments, think.

My job is done if India-Pakistan ties normalize: Manmohan

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would consider his job “well done” if ties with Pakistan return to normal before he leaves office, local media quoted him as saying on Sunday, weeks after Singh’s diplomatic push at the cricket World Cup.

The nuclear-armed neighbours have slowly tried to rebuild a fragile trust shattered by the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which Singh’s government blamed on Pakistan-based militants in collusion with the country’s spy agency.

According to a recently released Wikileaks cable, Singh has led the push for peace with Pakistan despite misgivings from members of his own administration, including the National Security Adviser.

“Well, if I can succeed in normalising relations between India and Pakistan as they should prevail between two normal states, I will consider my job well done,” Singh told reporters on board his plane returning from a visit to Kazakhstan, according to the Press Trust of India.

Singh had invited his Pakistani counterpart, Yusuf Raza Gilani, to watch their two teams square off in the semi-final of the cricket World Cup at the end of March.

In a major confidence-building measure ahead of the match, Islamabad also agreed to let Indian investigators travel to Pakistan to probe the Mumbai assault. Their foreign ministers are due to meet in July.

For Singh, the push for peace may be a way of regaining the policy initiative after his government has been battered by months of corruption scandals that could dent the ruling Congress party’s chances in state elections this year. – Reuters

i hope we go to nuclear war before he leaves office.

The alternative of peace isn't war. India and Pakistan just can be like any two countries in the world, say for example Botswana and Uruguay, without much caring for each other existence! All these bhaichara brought bad things in past, the effort should be from both end else MMS will end up making a fool out of the country again.

Of course the effort should be from both ends. In the Early months of 2010 Pakistan FO repeatedly gaved out statements to normalize the relations but It took a little while for Dr Singh's Gov to respond to it. The Recent meeting between the two Prime Ministers at Mohali ended up with a good note. But Still more needs to be done from both Ends.

Who had to bear all the wars and partition? Even my family lost some of the members.
The southern people jut sat cosy..

Yes partition affected my place as well. What would Southies have done at the time of partition when it was North Indians and Bengalis played the key role in partitioning India? It's not their fault that they didn't have to bear the direct consequence of partition.

Yes they don't carry around the burden of partition, may be that's why they act with less emotion when it comes to Pakistan.

What do you expect from him, he was born & brought up in Pakistani Punjab before 1947, & cannot read Hindi Devanagari so he has to resort to Nastaliq to read his speeches.

Manmohan Singh is the only peaceful politician India has, maybe because he was born in Pakistan. Most Pakistanis like Manmohan Singh more than the previous leader of India BJP Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

And you Indians should not forget how he made India's economy to where it is now, compare your economy now to Vajpayee's era. You Indians should be thankful Manmohan Singh is your leader.

The same way we like your Zardari. Both are useless leaders and as Indians and Pakistanis we love to see each other doomed.

PS: Musharraf was born in Delhi and we hate him.
