Muslims treated as second class citizens: SP
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Mumbai, Feb 12: Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi has slammed the government alleging that Muslims in the country are being treated as secondary citizens. He also questioned the governments intentions for not hanging assassins of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and former chief minister of Punjab Beant Singh, while citing the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
In a press conference held at his Nariman Point party office, Azmi said that political outfit from Punjab Akali Dal had openly stated that if assassins of Singh were hanged, the whole state would burn. The Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution demanding that the three killers of Gandhi should not be hanged. If the same resolution was passed by Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, then Muslims are labelled as traitors, he said.
If the Parliament attack convict can be hanged, why is our government waiting to hang assassins of Rajiv Gandhi and Beant Singh? he questioned.
Azmi, who is also an MLA from the Govandi legislative assembly, expressed his anger for inaction against Hindu right wing organizations.
He said that while Students Islamic Movement of India was banned in 2001 on charges of terror activities, the government is yet to act against RSS and BJP. Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde has recently said that RSS and BJP were also running terror camps, but nobody is taking any action against them, he said.
He also demanded action against former ATS chief KP Raghuvanshi, former DGP AN Roy and former SP of Nashik for wrongly arresting Muslim youth in the Malegaon blast case.
