If muslims in general starts questioning motives of politicians/maulvis before indulging in violence then half of the world's problem will be solved. But questioning maulvis etc is against their belief system. One shout Islam khatre mein hai will be sufficient for a crowd to go bonkers.
They are thick skinned and learn only the hard way. If you request them to calm down they will come to your throat but if hit them hard they will sit quietly for a real long time. For ex. I don't see any major riots to happen again for a long time in Muzzafarnagar. They know nobody is going to appease them no more and if they start violence they will be made to cry blood in retaliation.
Right after independence, there were some people saying that reorganization of states should be as east Punjab and northern Haryana should be created as Punjabi speaking state while the Jat Hindi speaking areas of Haryana and western UP(Harit Pradesh) should be merged for a big powerful Jat state. But congress divided Punjab in such a way that Punjabis and Haryanvis would get distracted and remain in constant conflict over territory with each other while no one would look at UP which is a congress base and as congress wanted it would remain intact and not be broken.
