Not that I am justifying it, but social hierarchy exists in all cultures- Especially among south asian cultures. The only difference is that Hindu's have the patent on on the socio-infrastructure.
Be honest, Muslims in north west India/ Pakistan are the first to tell you that they have some kinda Nawaabi blood and that they can trace their family tree back to the Prophet (Something that separates them from majority of the subcontinental muslims).
A syric orthodox Christians make claims over how they were the descendant of the first Christian migrants in India and often look down on the previously untouchable Hindu converts.
