Music Review: Raasta’s music album does not disappoint
Frankly speaking, the music doesn’t disappoint, but it doesn’t make us gleeful either.

Raasta, a film by and starring Sahir Lodhi is an action-thriller with the necessary elements of romance for the audience, strewn together in a series of events. It is quite early to judge and pass a verdict on the movie but with the music album released, we can certainly keep our hopes and expectations high. Frankly speaking, the music for Raasta doesn’t disappoint, but it doesn’t make us gleeful either.
Expectations are quite high with big names like Kamran Akhter and Sajai Ali attached to Raasta for its music. And since the composers have roped in talented singers for the movie… Raasta’s audio seems promising enough.

Dil Fakeer, the quintessential romantic number of the movie and sung by the magic-man Rahat Fateh Ali Khan steals the show from the entire album. This particular song with its soft musical arrangement and vocals is a treat to the ears.

The title track, Raasta, is supposed to sound painful but is just deadpan. The singer fails to instill agony in his voice and the song comes off in a strangled voice rather than soul… as expected of a painful title track… you’d want to skip this one…

The item song, Pee Lay, with its peppy, catchy beats is a good effort. The only sad part is that it is a readaptation of a Punjabi song… 'Dil Da Buha Khol Mai Andar Ana Chani Aan'… nonetless the chorus of this particular item song is very very addictive. You’ll be hooked on to the beats for this one. And since the video will be featuring Mathira…. This one could be your next chart buster when it comes to sizzling hot video songs…

Another dance number, Choti Umariya Mai is a song doesn’t deliver anything and seems more like a filler for the movie. The arrangements are woozy and the lyrics… plain childish… we did not enjoy this one. Not even the beats could save this particular number.

Mehermaa is another soft, light romantic track. The singers certainly have a promising voice and combined with a very soothing background arrangement, Mehermaa comes off quite good. It has a very refreshing effect and the beats are simple yet very attractive. The lyrics are a bit here and there but with its melodic arrangement Mehermaa is nonetheless a great number-something you’d enjoy listening too.

All in all, Raasta’s music might not be a raging success but it certainly is a fine listen. The talented composers have done their best, but the lyrics seem a bit out of place for the tracks which mar the overall quality of the songs.
