What's new

Munawar Faruqui is not being bullied for his jokes, but for his faith

I guess Hindus has stopped taking shit.

Yeah, I suppose the Ram Mandir movement brought out the Hindutvadis from the background and the sanskaari serials on TV since the 1990s brainwashed the women into raising their children into poisoned beings bereft of scientific temper, rationality, logic, empathy and sensibility. So now we have misogynist rituals like Karva Chauth back in fashion and lynchings too and the MBA'ed code monkeys in companies like Infosys and TCS.

What's your opinion on Satanic verses though?

Never read it. What is it about ?

Whatever you say the scientific temper among the masses is better than most others in this region. With economic conditions improving that too will be covered. Let a generation code and earn a living maybe the next generation will find an alternative path to success. I'm at least positive about my country's future.

I don't think so.

In a bizarre statement, Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb has said that the internet was invented lakhs of years ago and that the technology and satellites were present during the period of Mahabharata. Addressing a regional workshop on Public Distribution System (PDS), the CM said, “Not US and other western countries, but the internet was invented by India lakhs of years ago.”

“Many may decline the fact, but if the internet was not there, how Sanjay, could see the war in Kurukshetra and describe it to Dhritarashtra? It means internet was there, the satellites and that technology was there in this country at that time,” Deb was quoted as saying by Tripura Infoway.

The chief minister expressed, “I feel proud that I am born in a country with such an advanced technology, the countries which claim themselves to be technologically advanced are hiring Indian talent to upgrade their software mechanism.” The speaker was addressing representatives from Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala.

In India it is not necessary for a person to have PhD in the sciences and then for him or her to have scientific temper, rationality, logic and sensibility. Many PhDs in India will lean Right. Take former DRDO chief, Dr. VK Saraswat and his comrades at VIBHA :
VIBHA's advisory board includes Vijay Kumar Saraswat, former head of Indian defense research and now chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University here. The former chairs of India's Space Commission and its Atomic Energy Commission are VIBHA "patrons." Structural biologist Shekhar Mande, director-general of CSIR, is VIBHA's vice president.

Saraswat—who says he firmly believes in the power of gemstones to influence wellbeing and destiny—is proud of the achievements of ancient Hindu science: "We should rediscover Indian systems which existed thousands of years back," he says. Mande shares that pride. "We are a race which is not inferior to any other race in the world," he says. "Great things have happened in this part of the world." Mande insists that VIBHA is not antiscientific, however: "We want to tell people you have to be rational in your life and not believe in irrational myths." He does not see a rise of pseudoscience in the past 4 years—"We have always had that"—and says part of the problem is that the press is now paying more attention to the occasional bizarre claim. "If journalists don't report it, actually that would be perfect," he says.
And what is VIBHA ?
New Delhi—The most widely discussed talk at the Indian Science Congress, a government-funded annual jamboree held in Jalandhar in January, wasn't about space exploration or information technology, areas in which India has made rapid progress. Instead, the talk celebrated a story in the Hindu epic Mahabharata about a woman who gave birth to 100 children, citing it as evidence that India's ancient Hindu civilization had developed advanced reproductive technologies. Just as surprising as the claim was the distinguished pedigree of the scientist who made it: chemist G. Nageshwar Rao, vice-chancellor of Andhra University in Visakhapatnam. "Stem cell research was done in this country thousands of years ago," Rao said.

His talk was widely met with ridicule. But Rao is hardly the only Indian scientist to make such claims. In recent years, "experts" have said ancient Indians had spacecraft, the internet, and nuclear weapons—long before Western science came on the scene.

Such claims and other forms of pseudoscience rooted in Hindu nationalism have been on the rise since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014. They're not just an embarrassment, some researchers say, but a threat to science and education that stifles critical thinking and could hamper India's development. "Modi has initiated what may be called ‘Project Assault on Scientific Rationality,'" says Gauhar Raza, former chief scientist at the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) here, a conglomerate of almost 40 national labs. "A religio-mythical culture is being propagated in the country's scientific institutions aggressively."

Some blame the rapid rise at least in part on Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), the science wing of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), a massive conservative movement that aims to turn India into a Hindu nation and is the ideological parent of Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party. VIBHA aims to educate the masses about science and technology and harness research to stimulate India's development, but it also promotes "Swadeshi" (indigenous) science and tries to connect modern science to traditional knowledge and Hindu spirituality.

VIBHA receives generous government funding and is active in 23 of India's 29 states, organizing huge science fairs and other events; it has 20,000 so-called "team members" to spread its ideas and 100,000 volunteers—including many in the highest echelons of Indian science.

If anybody wants to have even more fun they can read this "research" document prepared by Professor Shivanandam M, head of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Kanchipuram ( Tamil Nadu state ). I quote its abstract :
Ancient Indian culture 7000 years ago knows how to create Vimanas to traverse the sky and beyond using a technology that NASA is still trying to harness today. There are many books and websites which forcefully and passionately assert that technologically advanced aircraft and spacecraft were in common use over the Indian subcontinent thousands of years ago. The sources also claim that advanced space propulsion technology being researched by NASA is in fact directly inspired by ancient flying machines. The references mentioned from Vedic texts such as Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Srimad Bhagavatham, Ramayana, Mahabharatha, Vaimanika Shastra and Samarangana Suthtradhara cites Vimanas that fly in air, water and land. They mention various propulsion including Mercury propulsion. Vaimanika Shastra provides complete manual for Design, Material selection, Manufacture, Operation, Space suits, Food, Tackling enemies, Becoming invisible etc. S.B.Talpade, Sanskrit scholar has designed and constructed an aircraft based on Vedic principles and demonstrated the first unmanned flight.
Have fun reading. And NASA, SpaceX, Relativity Space and Russia must submit themselves to the superiority of the professor's research.

I'm at least positive about my country's future.

I see only doom and gloom.

Their intention is never comedy, they consider themselves as political activists against ruling government.

"speaking truth to power" ,its only a niqab of comedy under rampant Hinduphobia, vulgarity & liberal trash.

These people are getting hit where it hurts the most i e their pockets and as usual out with victim card.

He cannot be a political activist? What did he say that violates the law?

... Speaking of Hinduphobia, India is the biggest Islamophobic country in the world. The most and the worst kinds of insults and abuse on social media towards the Prophet, Quran, Muslims, Islam, Allah are from Hindus. The ideology has backing from the political and state machinery.

.
We have also heard people asking why Faruqui can’t mock Islam or its sacred figures. As if only by doing so, would he qualify to practice humour. Well-meaning people fall
Hmmm, let me guess, may it is due to the fact that hindus themselves make jokes on hindu gods left and right. This makes it permissible for everyone(seems like).
And Muslims don't make jokes on any entity of Islam. And if some Muslim will do that, hindus don't have tell us that we have to deal with him/her.

Well, drinks and mini mini clothes apart it is good that they get freedom to enjoy life because in India they have to live under the ominous idiocy, irrationality and non-intellectuality of the Tablighi Jamaat who have imposed a misinterpretation of Islam where they live in ghettos, are fanatics of prayers and have foot-long beards and have to wear burqas and some males even wear the Arab dress called Thawb because that will supposedly make them a better Muslim. This has generally been so for the last 20 years.

So in which category among those would put the caste system ? And let alone jokes even straight ads are forced off air. One was the Alia Bhatt ad for Manyavar suitings in which she as the bride at her wedding asks her family and her in-laws to do Kanyamaan ( celebration of the bride and respect for her at her husband's house ) instead of Kanyadaan ( the traditional Hindu abandonment of the bride by her parents into the unknown hands of her husband and his family ). The Hindutvadis were furious with this ad and said it insulted their culture. Well, if the culture contains anti-human elements then they should be removed, yes ? Similarly if someone points at a wrong cultural element in a humorous manner it should make the people think and they should speak for its removal instead of making a hungama.
You didn't mention all the grave worshipping and other bs.

Lol who cares man. There are thousands of research papers published, which used to be in single digits in the last decade. You are singling out few crazies to paint a break picture and I am never surprised by your mentality. Communists in general are less proud of their country when others are ruling. And no amount of data I give would cure that.

Actually, he is going to make more money than ever now. I checked this guys YouTube - apparently he's had 1.5m extra views on his videos in last 24 hours.

You can't silence ideas in the internet age

Ps- I don't think it's a Muslim issue, I watched a couple of videos and he's very anti-Modi / BJP.

As usual religious people (in this case bhakts) using religion to silence political competition

  victim card is out! isn't kunal kamra also bitching on twitter that his Bangalore shows got cancelled. So, nothing to do with religion there are dime a dozen muslim standup comedians performing everyday.

He is a victim. He was arrested and jailed before his performance for something he was about to say. What was he going to say that violated the law?

What a stupid logic.
How hard it is to understand when told no.

Your friends might make fun of you once in a while and you don't take it seriously and even might laugh along with them. But does that give the right to some stranger make fun of you and claim you had no problem when your friends made fun of you.i am sure you would not use the same logic you used.

Can some Hindu post the video of where Munawar Faruqui cracked jokes on Hindu gods? I cannot find anything where he said that.

Despite your name you don't quite fire your imagination. Who are those "dime a dozen Muslim stand up comedians performing everyday" ? And Kamra comes across as a critic of the Hindutvadis so that is the sole reason for his show to be cancelled. Read his funny tweet about that. I will tag you in a day or two in some podcasts of his.

You didn't mention all the grave worshipping and other bs.

Are you talking about the students or the TJ or the Indian Muslims in general ?

Lol who cares man. There are thousands of research papers published, which used to be in single digits in the last decade. You are singling out few crazies to paint a break picture and I am never surprised by your mentality.

You should care. Some of these crazies are in government and academia.

Communists in general are less proud of their country when others are ruling. And no amount of data I give would cure that.

Communists are among the true patriots. Their agenda is not communal hatred abetted by the selfish Capitalist barons. Their agenda is advancement of the country and emancipation of the people. And when things are wrong in the country shouldn't they say what is wrong ?
