What's new

Mumbai Metro inauguration on Sunday

Line 3 is going to be built fully underground and opening is slated for 2020

This is in my opinion true evidence of substantial SOCIAL progress in Mumbai at least and by the posts of others seems to be in other cities as well. It would be nice to see metros in other cities of india to truly capture progress

A lot of Pakistanis don't know about india either.

This is great news. Underground metro lines certainly mean a mark of unity between people and government of Mumbai. Its a true sign of progress.

@cb4 @Leader
it is just planned till now,it's not usually all hunky dory .

if this line impresses ppl then things might move forward rapidly

Abe how many proofs do you want coz i can provide you with literally a hundred different pictures of Kolkata Metro System.Anyways for your satisfaction-

Are there any plans to get better trains?
There are 5 new lines on the Kolkatta metro which are under various stages of planning and construction, hopefully they would get newer designed rolling stocks

India imports these or is it your own creation?
IMO, mumbai monorail looks the best among all the transport projects in india.
Initial sets are imported in small quantities and then the rest are built in India. This is true for Kolkatta (CAF),Chennai(Alstom).

Hyderabad Metro (Hyundai Rotem) - All 171 sets will be made in SK.
Mumbai Metro (CSR) - All 16 sets made in China.
Gurgaon Metro (Siemens) - All 15 sets are made in China.

Delhi, Bangalore and Jaipur are made locally by a bunch of companies

Lucky, we are stuck with sh*tty metro buses

yesterday I had a fight with my colleague who is from Bihar...my contention was, Mumbai has reached his potential and now mass migration (unskilled) to this city must be stopped,....his argument was, everyone in India is free to move anywhere in India except Kashmir....he went on saying, we north Indians are running Mumbai and it should be made a separate state!! Can you guys believe this? ..Sale, Bihar ko sudhar nahi sakate and come here and talk about a separate state in Maharashtra!!!!

We should seriously think about implementing internal passport system.

Sir those chinese plans have backfired ... 60% of their new build cities remain unoccupied .. they sustain the builder through their huge monetary reserves .. can we ?? We cannot build cities at massive scales unless there is sufficient demand. We are building cities but they take their sweet time due to lack in demands

First of all, if you ever visited China you know how occupied those "ghost cities" are, they may lack the occupancy of old cities, but they are increasing by the year.

Second, there are definitely real ghost cities, but those are in bad places, like inner Mongolia and the like. The percentage is relatively small.

The reason western propaganda keep using the same cities is because it is in fact the same cities and others have been filling up.

Third, Chinese cities is still looking to expand the population of current old cities like Dalian, my home town from 6 to 8 million people. So more will actually move to the cities in the coming decades, and once the older cities are more or less full, the new cities will start to get full.

As to demand, it's a cycle, Chinese people get higher paying jobs by building new cities, they in turn have the financial power to move into these cities. New cities are built, and businesses move in, then comes the population. For example, Dalian has a new IT area that's bring jobs and new people, that's how it works.

People can't wait for buildings, what do you want them to do in the mean time? Live on the street?

it's a loaded topic, just look at how many lives in the cities compare to 20 years ago, how many will live in the cities within the next 20 years.

Compare to India and then it's apparent what our respective policies are doing.

Don't let emotions do the talking let's look at facts.

Are there any plans to get better trains?
Yes indeed there are some ambitious plans made by the current C.M. of Bengal Ms.Banerjee when she was the Union Rail Minister in the U.P.A. Govt. The most important part of the plan is to extend the Calcutta Metro system to literally every corner of the Kolkata district by 2020.Plus there are also plans to buy a few dozens of new Rakes(metro trains are known as Rakes) in the near future.Anyways here are some of the pictures of new rakes which were bought a few years back from the Chennai Coach factory
