The name of the show is Panorama - Secrets of Britain's Sharia Council for those who are interested in watching it.

Panorama is a show where they expose the dark side of various things, like these councils, churches, synagogues, temples etc. Basically the dark side of the society we live in today.

Not a biased show at all in case some thinks so.

AIMPLB need to be gotten rid of - Any secular country can't have different civil laws for different religions especially when one of the community's civil laws are not touched at all and all the ills left alone - polygamy, maher, non-maintenance for divorced women etc - Especially for India, it has just inherited the British empire legacy. Excellant news. The Indian Courts are overburdened and if two people decide that they wish to appoint a mutually acceptable Mediator, whats the harm? When you fight with your sibling do you always go the Court or just let an elder settle the dispute? I think you are not happy with the word sharia?

Should not have happened as India is a secular country with no official religion...the civil code of the country should prevail over these kangaroo courts as the writ of the law is invested in the judiciary and islamic courts are not part of the judiciary...if allowed then everybody will ask for their own justice system according to their religious practices...there should be uniform civil procedure for all...A point in case will be then that why should there be a law that only muslims should be allowed to keep 4 wives then it is also the right according to my religious practices that i too be allowed to keep more than 1 wives and or i too be allowed to marry if i am under age or if i murder somebody i too be allowed to pay blood money....if there are shariah courts then there should be punishments accorded according to shariah law that if you steal then your hands should be cut off and so on

Where does writ of govt begin and end? Thats a call all countries need to take. We can even have civilian police and criminal courts. But the problem - SOLE problem is that these are unaccountable and incapable of corrections as they think they are doing god's work!!!

I am not sure about the property rights. But isn't it true that, for Sunnies, male kids get twice of what female kids get as inheritance?

Here we have to ask the same question Pakistan is facing. Under which Muslim law? The kind of muslim law in question does not allow alimony for divorcee women for example. This is just the surface. Women are not equal in applying for divorce. They have to pay more to get divorce apart from having to convince random guys(the extra cost is in the proceedings leading to this demonstration) that she deserves divorce.

By the way, it is not even required to change the jurisdiction of the things I mentioned to civil courts, if the muslim law board is fine with including the measures I mentioned above in the Muslim law itself. But my guess is that the first reaction of hardliners(not just the law board) would be that they cannot change God's law or such hullaabaloo.

1. They get half share on father's property and also share in husband's property.

2. Muslim woman can apply for divorce and there is one box in nikah nama , which states (Tansikh e nikah) giving right to women that they can end the marriage at any time just like men can.

3. No they dont have to pay any penny. earlier they could not claim haq mahr in case of khula but now it is called dissolution of marriage and they are paid haq mahr even if they apply for divorce. thats in my country
