I have seen all kinds of elections, revolutions, agitations, coups, political somersaults in Pakistan since 1970. Yes, I even remember a bit of the 1970 elections coverage where the PTV actor Mohd. Ali--probably in the 'Khuda ki Basti' show asks the audience: "To whom I should give my vote? Peoples Party, Jamaat e Islami, ..."

But none of the TV commentators, except for Jang newspaper's deceased Irshad Ahmad Haqqani, have done such a great job as Dunya TV's Mujibur Rehman Shami in covering Pakistani politics. In the 1980s, I didn't care for Shami Sahib--perhaps because I thought he was not strong enough against Zia ul Haq. But I still admired him for his logical explanations. Maybe I wasn't fair to Shami Sahib.

In today's Pakistan, it is a gift to listen to a veteran like Shami Sahib. He's been through all and seen it all--going all the way back to ZAB's days (or maybe earlier) when ZAB tried to teach Shami Sahib a lesson.

Here is, but one video, where he's giving his viewpoint on the Imran Khan Dharnas. I suggest watch this gem of Pakistani journalism while he's still alive.

I fully agree with you about Mujib ur Rehman shami being the most neutral and sane journalist. I have never seen him crossing his boundary and he always criticises resoectfully. Its pleasure a pleasure to listen to him

Besides him I also have some respect for

Wajahat Saeed Khan from Mahaz (also liked him in his previous role of interviewing politicians)

Talat Hussain for clearly being a patriotic journalist whose words speaks for itself

rest of the journalists are pretty much rough and tries to gain publicity by controversial stunts

No doubt Shami is entirely in different class and also Kamran Khan is doing a great job since last 4 decades or so but his role is different compared to Shami

He's one of the few unbiased journalist in our media industry.Lots of Respect for him.

I Can Only Weep For You If You Actually Think Of Him As Neutral. He Is Known To Be Close To Nawaz Sharif And Was Beneficiary Of Getting Hamid Mir's Paper Under Coercion During The 2nd Government of NS.

The Only Person That Deserves Respect As A Journalist Is Haroon Rasheed

It is a trait of Pakistanis to accuse everybody. I have seen him criticising Noon League equally as much as other parties

The bottom line is, even if he has affiliation with 1 party which is not true, his analysis remains unbiased and thoroughly neutral

PS: We moderated PDF during General Elections of 2013 and almost all MODs including me were supporting PTI and campaigned a lot for their sake but when it came to decision making I think 80% of bans were given to PTI members despite being in the same club thanks to their childish and notorious habit of swearing and all The bottom line is, the decision didn't came in the way of affiliation as what is right is right and what is wrong is wrong. Shami's analysis has been the most neutral I have watched in Pakistani TV channels and keenly watched his show for years. Now I don't get time to watch him anymore but he is quite a gentleman

Biased as fk ad-hungry woof woof. I lost the shiit bit of respect i had for him for talking sense once in a blue moon when saw him shamelessly defend the fake heart surgery ad campaign. He's of the opinion that printing/broadcasting of propaganda ads is perfectly fine because media house owners have families to feed -- yes, he literally said that.

He has such an annoying speech pattern and his voice is like the sound of a fat bitcch's farts through latex underwear.

Correct on these two. Wajahat is new to me--saw him barely a few days ago while I ran into a YouTube video where Wajahat was giving a tour of Gwadar city/port. So my Gori American wife saw this handsome guy and asked me: 'Is he a Pakistani or an American?' I told her he's very much a Pakistani and is probably from northern parts of Pakistan where such people are in plenty.

It is fine to criticize Shami if you think he's a Nawaz Sharif guy. But remain in civil limits. Mr. Shami has a tremendous experience in Pakistani politics and has an extremely deep knowledge of Pakistan's history. As I said, he's not averse to speaking his mind and paid a heavy price for speaking against ZAB when ZAB was the ultimate and ruthless power in Pakistan in the 1970's. That requires a strong character.

A gentleman .. really .. he's blown his fuse plenty times during the Dharna. I wouldn't be surprised if he's part of the media cell as he's a permanent member of the team that accompanies Nawaz on foreign trips.

Soon someone will start a pro Najam Sethi thread and praise him as such as well.
