Expanding on your metaphor, to be fair"er" the student has the right to know what he/she is being punished for.

As I said, once the student stops doing it, hopefully you will stop 'enforcing the medicine' on the student.

But I'm afraid the attitude towards Muslims will not change no matter what - it predates the 'terrorist era'. It's the same attitude that led to persecution of Jews and Gypsies.
