What's new

Most doctors in urban India are not MBBS: Study

Homeopaths and quacks should not be allowed to call themselves doctor. Same for ayurveda, call them ayurvedic practitioner.

They are not doing it....the state thsemselves calls them doctors after they pass BHMS or BAMS degree.

What nonsense ............by that same absurd logic, people who finished their Phd should also not be called doctors

Where does it say that ONLY people who practice 'Allopathy' can be called doctors.............anybody who practices the art of healing is a doctor. Doctor is a generic term that is used for healers. Even dentists are called doctors. :D

India is the mother of medicine and to imagine an absurd scenario where only doctor's trained in the western model can be called doctor is a laughable suggestion. India is a place where there are multiple alternative healing methods.

Thankfully such foolish suggestions are limited to a fringe minority in India

Why do you insist on calling yourself 'Hindu guy' ........ you are an embarrassment to hindus. Just goes to show stupidity is not limited by religion.

you seem to be terribly offended... these people can do whatever they want, calling themselves a doctor gives them certain respectability which they dont deserve.
A doctor spends 5 years to study medicine and only then can practice. Any doctor will confirm its hard work.
And you want to equate them to guys who sell white color sweet... he he

Alternative my foot, they are all cheating gullible people.

My wife is a doctor who teaches in one such 'Private Medical collage' that dish out medical degrees to anybody who can pay for it  ........seats are sold, exams results are sold ......everything is for sale. Students 'demand' to be passed as their folks have dished out Lakhs to the college management ...........and the management demand that they be passed

Money can buy you the 'respectability' of a doctor. The 'respectability' foolish gullible people offer them.

Looks like you get your dose of reality from Television and Movies .................. ......appears you are one of the guillable fools who you are laughing at ......who thinks doctors does anything more than sell you placebos and Drugs that pharma company pay them commission for.

My wife herself is from a Govt. medical collage (both MBBS & MD) and has been a honor student all her life......and even then I know the extend of her knowledge in medicine. Its 99% guess work and hope and prayer.

All doctors cheat gullible people, that is how they make money. (what ever little they make) ..... its is no more different that 'quacks' you denigrate.

Yeah but you have to realise that almost all those who supposedly specialised in alternate methods insist on being allowed to prescribe allopathic drugs, something that they have not trained for. The point s not whether or not these people can be called "doctors", it is to let the patients know exactly what the "doctor" is trained as. Most people have no idea of the differentiations between BAMS & MBBS. Why should the patient not have the right to know exactly what type of doctor is treating them and make a more informed choice? Surely, no one will allow someone with a Phd in unrelated fields to treat patients simply because he can be called a doctor? Why should it be any different with these practitioners of alternate medicine? Why should they be hiding what exactly is their qualification & what they have been trained in & more specifically what they have not been trained in?

For 99.9% of India, 'choice' is a luxury.

They don't get to 'choose' their doctor based on 'informed decision'. Most just go to whoever is available or whoever they can afford.

If you are talking about the 0.1% then they would not go to a quack anyway.

Availability of a healer, qualified or not is itself a great deal.

In India medical stores are the first line in healthcare. They are the one's treating ailements. People go to doctors if the local medical store cannot treat them. Most drugs are available over the counter without a prescription. In India where human life is cheap the drug store save more lives than kill.

Practitioner of alternative medicine do not claim to be qualified Allopathy doctors ..........No one bothers to ask them anyway. How many times have you as part of the 0.1% elite have asked your doctor to show you his Medical certificate ?

There is a huge gap between 'Theory' and 'Practical'. Its the difference been being a grown up and an idealistic kid.

I would rather consult the guy in drug store than a practitioner of alternative medicine.. at least the guy has been selling medicine every day will have some idea for minor illness... what will the ayurvedic and homeopathic guy know about it such drugs ?

There is still no point here. Would you allow an engineer to prescribe you medicine simply because you deem that 99.9% have no choice (not as a personal decision but as an official government policy)? Why should the same question not be asked of alternate medicine practitioners who are similarly not trained in allopathy who prescribe allopathic medicine. I have no problem with then sticking to their field. However not even they want too do that, for the most part.

When Ayurvedic medicines become unscientific? Ayurveda is proven medicine and many Allopath medicines use the same chemical compound that is naturally available in Ayurvedic plants.
And those who tried it will confirm that Homoeopathy works, though not for all types of treatments....but, in some cases works better than any other treatment.

Hence, what is the problem in calling someone a doctor when that person studies & passes the necessary qualification in Ayurveda & Homeopathy and heals people?

I have a sir who teach me German in my university. He infact went to Romania to learn MBBS. What he says is that ,there the you can pass the exams by bribing and the average bribe rate is from $100. While in Russia you have to bribe and the average bribe rate is just $10.

Bro,
I have a lot of friends who study ayurveda, homeopathy and naturopathy in India and they go through pretty much the same syllabus as allopathy, including basic surgery. They also learn about drugs along with the respective medicines from their class.
