This is exactly my point. The price of carrier has gone from around 600 million dollars to more than 1.5 billion. If India had searched properly they perhaps would have found a second hand carrier with almost same price somewhere and avoided delay in delivery.

Whom would you be more comfortable in buying foreign goods from India or china?? and as an American?

You are right that the US is using India to counter Chinese dominating influence in Asia.

But I must say that the US prefers buying from China even with the minor hiccups of the safety. This is shown in the ever growing trade deficit which we should be closing.

The main reason is the US consumers are used to purchasing cheap goods from China. It's like an dependence/addiction.

The US also buys fromn India, I think mainly service based.

exactly... increasing trade deficit and growing clout of China has US worried.. they want to rely less on CHina.. get them to buy US stuff as well.. India that way is transparent and less arbitrary than China..

US citizens can have fully owned companies in India without fear.. and operate.. it gives the Capitalist a level playing field... etc
