OK, please explain in both financial and political terms why this is not possible?

You think that China will not sell J-31 to BD next decade since you say it is impossible:lol:

.
BD Navy wants to purchase two modern frigates that will contain 24/32 VLS medium-range SAMs. These two frigates, when combined with the Type-56 corvettes, can blow your whole air-force out of the sky.

Now Bangladeshi navy frigates will fly to hunt down Myanmar's fleet of MiG29 fighters...!!!!!!!!! Get well soon!!:lol:

Nope. What I was trying to say is that if the military government did not dare attack BD then the civilian one is not likely to either. It is all to do with the superior strength of the BD Army and Navy that deters Myanmar.

BD army and navy is nor superior to Myanmar's, besides, they are sitting ducks in front of vastly superior Myanmar air force. It will be game over for Bangladesh once Myanmar air force achieves complete air superiority over BD sky in 24-48 hours max. :)

BD has 3 times larger economy. Myanmar has little scope to increase military spending whereas BD can as it spends only 1.5% of GDP on defence, even taking into account arms imports. Say BD increased defence spending by 0.5% of GDP a year, this would be 50% of the total defence budget of Myanmar. Hope you understand who holds the cards here

First increase the budget and then talk, BD also has that many extra mouth to feed. :)

Don't be an idiot. In the 2020s, buying 5th generation fighters will be routine. Lots of countries like US, Russia, China, Turkey and South Korea will be offering 5th generation planes for sale then. BD is most likely to go for China bearing in mind politics and price/performance ratio.

It will be routine for a handful of big powers, not for Bangladesh. Besides, BD is still stuck in 3rd gen fighters. :)

When you have a GDP of over 200 billion dollars growing at 7% a year, then what you want you get. BD cannot afford 1 billion dollar destroyers this decade but 250-300 million dollar frigates are easily within it's reach. Destroyers will come into service in BD but not likely till the latter part of the 2020s when BD's economy starts approaching 1 trillion dollars.

By 2030, Myanmar will not even be in BD's threat horizon but deterring India with modern and large conventional forces will be the main goal of BD military.

First, Myanmar is also growing rapidly. Second, push the date to 2050-2060 for the list of achievements you expect for Bangladesh. :)

Bhai sab apki bibi Burmese hey kya ?Not even the Burmese are protesting but you are only fighting like one man army hahahaah

Being a Bengali myself I am just concerned about our little brothers across the border, it's all about being humane!! :)

OK, please explain in both financial and political terms why this is not possible?

It's not about whether China will sell it or not, it's about whether Bangladesh can afford it.

Besides, China may not want to risk their most advanced technology falling in our hand. :)

@Rain Man
Exactly why are you so interested in a hypothetical Myanmar-Bangladesh War and why are you so optimistic about us losing?

. . .
Now Bangladeshi navy frigates will fly to hunt down Myanmar's fleet of MiG29 fighters...!!!!!!!!! Get well soon!!:lol:

If a Mig-29 gets within 50km of the 2 new frigates that BD Navy will have soon, it will be blown out of the sky. These two frigates, when combined with the 4 Type-56 corvettes, can roam up and down Myanmar's coastline and bomb with abandon and Myanmar can do nothing.

What does Myanmay have that can take on the Ulsan-class frigate and the 2 Type-56 corvettes that BD has? Nothing as the most Myanmar ships have is manpads for air-defence.

It will be routine for a handful of big powers, not for Bangladesh. Besides, BD is still stuck in 3rd gen fighters. :)

BD has 4th generation Mig-29 and also 4th generation Yak-130 which can also act as a light fighter

It's not about whether China will sell it or not, it's about whether Bangladesh can afford it.

BD economy is set to hit half a trillion in 2025 and 1 trillion in 2030. J-31s will start arriving in BD sometime next decade and they will face any Indian threat to BD skies.

Keep dreaming that you will have much influence in BD in the future. Once Hasina is gone, so goes any influence you have in BD.

Your concerns seem rather cheerful.....:disagree:

Khaia daia kaam nai - chan mollar beai!

He needs to get a life or get laid, none of which has happened in the last twenty years it seems....

ha ha ha...one or two lone frigates are sitting ducks against anti-ship missiles, even CBGs are afraid of them. Nobody on earth before you has aspired to win a war with two ffffrigates and ccccorvettes!!!! BD navy is basically glorified coast guardes, don't keep such high expectations from them. :P

What does Myanmay have that can take on the Ulsan-class frigate and the 2 Type-56 corvettes that BD has? Nothing as the most Myanmar ships have is manpads for air-defence.

They have a bunch of MiG29 and anti-ship missiles mate. :)

BD has 4th generation Mig-29 and also 4th generation Yak-130 which can also act as a light fighter

A 4th gen fighter should at least have BVR capability, none of the planes in BD air force has that capability.

Besides, Bangladesh only has 6 outdated Mig29 and 2 MiG29 trainers, 17 even more outdated F-7, and 16 Yak-130 training aircrafts, that's a miniscule and backdated airforce even after assuming that all of these planes actually fly!! I have goven 48 hours to Mynmar air force to achieve complete air superiority over BD sky out of my love for BD, otherwise it's a half a day's job. :P

BD economy is set to hit half a trillion in 2025 and 1 trillion in 2030. J-31s will start arriving in BD sometime next decade and they will face any Indian threat to BD skies.

As I said, push the date to 2050. :P And by your own logic India should be a 15-20 trillion dollar economy by 2030. :)

Keep dreaming that you will have much influence in BD in the future. Once Hasina is gone, so goes any influence you have in BD.

BD will always remain our backyard. :P Besides, we are discussing about BD vs Myanmar here. :)

Your concerns seem rather cheerful.....:disagree:

We are discussing defence in a defence forum, maybe for the first time in the history of BD section...join in!! :)
