No. We always have extreme opinions about everything. A lot of Bangladeshis don't have any knowledge of defence, they don't understand the need for defence. It doesn't make them any mole.

The question i dont think should be about nullifying air superiority as much as it should be about providing adequate deterence. With the positive economic developments you have had, i dont think a full scale buildup is a good idea as it could derail your progress. BUT spending money smartly and getting rid of waste is a good idea. I think given the political climate, expecting J-10 or JF-17 (you are kinda on the outs with China and Hasina hates Pakistan and they don't much care for her) is a no go. Russia is blacklisted and any country buying arms from them could themselves face sanctions from the west. Typhoon, and Rafale are options but may be too expensive for what you really need. F-16 comes with many strings. Gripens would be good for a country like Bangladesh to explore. While on the expensive side, 18 gripen backed by 36 F-7 BGI would be more than a match for Myanmar. Also, honestly at the risk of sounding like telling you to get another trainer, i would strongly consider TA-50 or even L-159. It is reasonable to think with a western radar, MICA and Meteor could be options for both if AMRAAM wasnt. The L-159 comes with Grifo - L but i think the Grifo- E can be fitted as well, giving pretty decent BVR capabilities (probably equal to JF-17 block to in range). Grifo E with Meteor or Mica, even on a less capable aircraft like L-159 could give you a lost cost attacker/fighter capabpe of defending airspace enough to give Myanmar pause. But gripen would be the best bet. The only issue is the political will to utilize them.

We aren't asking for Chinese flankers or JF-17. J-10C I believe China will sell, there is no reason to believe otherwise. However, it's not useful against the Burmese. In any conflict with the Burmese I don't believe China will continue to supply weapons and part for the jets. Russian aircraft are junk and a waste of money.

As for European or American, we are able to buy whichever we want, I don't think we will be rejected. The Gripen is very cost effective. The F-16s are also cost effective. For 2/3 squadrons we don't need to buy second hand, we have he ability to buy new.

I don't think the ones who are western educated are claiming we don't need a military. Their perspective is that with BAL autocracy BD has stability and there is no good alternative to Hasina at the moment. Except for BananaRepublicUk I don't see any other BD member saying we don't need military, all of us are criticizing the govt for not upgrading the military.

OK. You may be right about BD unable to dent India. But, why it is that both India and China equally keeps BD so close? If you know the correct answer, you will see BD has some kind of strength because of its geographical location.

Even the US and other Western countries including Japan and Korea see BD role as the decisive factor in a war between India and China.

A Cold War is ongoing and BD remains in an advantageous position.

Pakistan is now not getting JF-17 engines from China. Why so? It is because the JF-17 engines are built by Russia, it supplies them to China and China supplies them to Pakistan for uses in the JF -17.

Those people are not brainwashed. They just don't understand the importance of defence. It's the result of us being located in a peaceful neighbourhood. If we had to go through constant warfare like Pakistan, I have no doubt our people would behave exavtly like Pakistanis in terms of the capabilities of the military, the government also would take defence seriously and the military wouldn't be in shambles as it is now. If a war breaks out between Burma and BD and BD receives significant losses, the narrative will change.

I don't want our armed forces lose the support of common people , as armed forces are the key to protect our sovereignty and economy!

Under no circumstances I want the armed forces to be strong in political scene or having the support of the common people. It will be a disaster of epic proportions. It's like saying the Dhaka WASA must have the support of the common people or the railway employees must have the support of the common people. The armed forces are one of the aparatus of the state just like the municipalities, roads and highways authority, port authority etc, nothing more. The armed forces should be under the control of the parliament and subservient.
