Last year BD spent 653 millions dollars on arms imports which comes to around 25% of it's total defence budget.

According to Janes, out of the actual defence budget they spent 4.1BDT/175.5BDT x 100%, which is only 2.3% of the defence budget on procurement and other not listed items. So out of BD's own budget they only spent 52 million dollars for both procurement and other things. So where did the 653 million dollars come from? It must have come from outside the defence budget as additional spending.

Another thing to note that, since quasi-civilian govt. took office in Myanmar in 2011,Myanmar's defence spending increased very little(from 2 to 2.4 billion usd) as they are correcting massive over spending relative to GDP of the past. Although it is still very high at 3.7 percent of GDP(compared to BD's 1.1 percent).Meantime BD's defence spending have doubled over the last 5 years.It is now equal to Myanmar. In the near future there is no possibility to massively hike defence budget there as new govt. there is less militaristic.So if the recent 5 years trend continue for at least 10 years then Bangladesh' defence budget will be at least 3 times larger than myanmar in the next 10 years.

Trolling aside, Myanmar cannot beat BD as BD has a much more powerful and professional army.

Yes, Myanmar air-force can beat BD air-force but it lags in both the naval and land side.

What will happen is that BD will unleash it's army on Myanmar and over-run a significant stretch of it, at least the whole of Rakhine state.

Myanmar will be able to bomb BD as it's air-force will most likely ground BD's within a week - remember that BD has 16 F 7BG1 in addition to 8 Mig-29s and the F 7BG1 has advanced radar and missile systems. However, Myanmar's air-force is not large or advanced enough that it could either severely hamper the BD army or heavily bomb BD military installations or cities.

Myanmar actually has a lot more to lose as BD's army can take significant stretches of it and encourage rebellions to start all over Myanmar as it has so many ethnic groups.

Future expansion plans heavily favour BD as it's economy is 3 times as large, and as BD graduates into a middle-income country over the next generation, it's military will becoming much stronger than Myanmar.

Our Shipyards already have the capable of building basic platform for navy like frigates , OPV since 3 years ago.. While BN is preparing to built corvette.. Furthermore , We're negotiating with Russia to built more advanced 122m frigates in coming years. BN is still confusing with Chinese ones while we are building ships which meet the need of MN under Russia super vision.. and we also making basic weapon system like Gun system which can operate both automatically and manually.. And I doubt the ability of BN's grandpa ships during the war time..

I have already proved that Bangladesh will be decimated in 48 hours max in case of a war with Myanmar, just don't sink those Bangladeshi navy trawlers, leave them after neutralizing whatever little fighting capacity they have...they catch Hilsa fish for us with those navy trawlers!

Bangladesh's lack of military power vis-a-vis Myanmar is a matter of grave concern for its security, it's not a matter of joke.

Myanmar has nothing currently that can take on either the single Ulsan class frigate or the two Tye-056 corvettes currently in service. They are modern ships with both offensive and defensive SAM systems.

The military gap will soon reduce and go in BD's favour - just look at the total arms imports between 2011-2016 and remember that BD has an economy 3 times as large and arms imports are not included in the defence budget.

As you can see, arms imports are running neck and neck. While Myanmar may be saving a little foreign currency by building ship hulls, it has to import all the expensive engines, sensor and SAM systems. BD has also started making it's own military ships and will soon build the Type-56 corvette under licence from China.

Give it till 2030, when BD armed forces will be fully modernised, and then BD will be much more powerful than Myanmar.

What will Myanmar do in the meantime?

Like I say BD has a better Army and Navy and can do serious damage to Myanmar and so there is deterrence. If Myanmar did not attack BD during the military dictatorship days, it sure wont now as it has a civilian government that wants to open up to the world and the last thing it needs is war.

Of course, those tanks that they brought 10 years ago will still be cutting edge 20 years from now.

Do you know why BD did not buy any more MBT-2000 tanks and so still has only 44? The reason is that the tank was judged to be not good enough to justify investing for the next generation.

And BD is slowly getting ready to induct large numbers of 4+/5 generation fighter planes. It has both the K-8 trainer and Yak-130 trainer/light fighter in service now. The current plan is 4 squadrons of 4+ generation jets by 2021 and a further 6 squadrons of what will be most likely 5th generation jets by 2030.

Most of the World navy also import engine , some parts of it's ship.... there are a variety of choice in the market.. why we still need to invest money in developing a engine..? when BD build type 056 corvette , BD also has to import it's engine ,sonar and SAM system...
