You fail to discern, they don't say they are from Bharat or call themselves Bharati. They say Hindustan and Hindustani. We used Hindustan very explicitly in the last several centuries. Hindustan is equivalent to Hind and Hindustani to Hind-vi.

Really surprising ubiquitous words like Hindustan and Hindustani used in language, culture, poems and songs need introduction. It is so deeply ingrained part of the fabric and personal identity that people don't even think about it, like not seeing what is under their nose.
