No way was it shot down with manpad, many people exaggerate mandpads effectiveness. Manpads will achieve nothing but alter flight path of enemy jets if fired in large numbers. Only effective area is against armed helicopters, they can impede Apache ability to strike inside enemy territory. This happened this summer in Gaza, the Israeli Apaches were firing from Israeli territory and had to retreat multiple times as they tried entering Gaza airspace. This accident was likely due to pilot error. Arab pilots need more flying hours and need to take part in exercises more often. Although Morocco is generally known to have well trained military in Arab world.

Jordan/UAE both have poor pilots. I will rank Egypt as the top, it just doesn't have as advanced equipment as UAE does. Arab armies were never known for their Air force potential though, usually strategy was SAMS/ground power. Saudi Arabia with the equipment has and experience its gaining will eventually have proper Air Force but will always be behind Turkey/Israel since they have much experience/NATO wargames. Turkey trains a lot to combat Greek Air Force so it will be better in dogfight.

Houthi rebels in Yemen say they have shot down a Moroccan fighter jet that was taking part in Saudi-led coalition air strikes against them.

Rebel-controlled Al-Masirah TV reported that the F-16 was hit as it flew over Saada province, and broadcast pictures of what it said was the wreckage.

The Moroccan Royal Armed Forces earlier said one of its planes was missing.

If confirmed, it would be the first aircraft lost by the coalition since its air campaign began on 26 March.

The bombardment has been stepped up in recent days ahead of the start of a proposed five-day humanitarian ceasefire.

Morocco only has the BLK52 version of the F-16s, and they had dispatched an entire squadron to UAE to take part in the campaign. The rebels are claiming they shot it down. From the footage it does look like an F-16.

its not the first one, F-15 of RSAF crashed due to technical faults earlier.

Jordan's equipment/Air Force is not significant. I don't believe their pilots of today match the pilots of past. Jordan is severely outgunned against Israeli F15/16's. I'm speaking in terms of dogfight not numbers wise. They don't even have enough munitions to do 100 sorties against ISIS targets in Syria. UAE has better equipment and pilots though. Employing US trainers doesn't mean much to me, US will never train them to their full potential or near effective level.

Egypt was caught offguard in an suprise Israeli attack in 67, all their jets were grounded.

By the way the egyptain pilot is still alive according to him he wasn't shut down and he managed to hit one of the Israeli planes but he didn't down it

Saudi Arabia lost an F-15S. Many more to come because the war will go on for a century at least.

If it was indeed brought down by the Houthis, it would be a MANPAD most likely. SA-7 or SA-14 would be my guess. Although it is odd that a F-16 would be flying that low, you don't need to go below 4000 meters to drop a LGB or JDAM.

A hunting rifle could also shoot it down.

Indeed. Modern jets are complex and vulnerable to malfunction. Given enough flights over distant lands, crashes will occur.

BTW, no all jet losses are reported. When the day Saudi Arabia can no longer fly over Yemen, that's when you know Saudi Arabia has crashed all its jets due to malfunction.

People can replace losses through reproduction. Jets cannot.

These R brand new blk 52 there must few remaining Sam betteries that not being hit but so far sorties to lost ratio is very good for Saudis they lost two aircraft in almost two months which is very normal in hostile situations.
