What's new

More than 300 PAF Mirages & F-7s will be retired in future. A huge market indeed.

We need about

  • 60 Sukhoi-35 , Air Superiority Fighters, with AESA
  • 60 Advance Gripen (Next Generation Jets), with AESA

Obviously the JF17 thunder program we are getting 150 planes , we still need 150 more new generation jets

In order to replace , 300 planes of older nature (Mirage / F-7)

The shortage is no doubtingly large

The 300 planes are loaded to teeth with Missiles and weapons

But we must think ahead beyond the F16

well this thread is misleading.
lets look at the number here shall we.
below is a table of the 3 jets that are referenced here.
Screenshot 2015-10-23 23.33.35.png

if you add them together thay add upto 343. so thats a mess. not really.
firstly with the mirages III's they are 75 in total. now 33 to the rose-I standard where were done up untill 1999. so they have a little life left in them, 10 years approx.
343-33=310
mirage rose I
PAF_Mirage_III_ROSE_alert_scramble_competition_Falcon_Air_Meet_2010_side_view_2.jpg

the mirage 5. 34 were delivered and overhauled to rose 2 and 3 standard in the late 1990's and early 2000's
so they have around 15 years ahead of them. and the rose 3 are night strikers, so wont write them so soon.
so 310-34=276

9-2.jpg

now the f-7's
theres 186 total now there are split in three the f7-p and the f-7pg the f-7p and the f-7mp. the f-7p are in need to be retired and replaced, and are being replaced by the jf-17. the f-7pg is more in the middle theres 80 in total and i would assume that about half need to be replaced leaving 40. and the f-7mp is early 2000's making it 60.

Chengdu-F-7.jpg

so 276-60=216

now how many jf-17's are being built? 250 in 5 blocks.50 per block. so 250-216=34
34 is almost 2 more squadrons.

obviously there will some f16's new or old trickling in. and after the jf-17 program the j-31 will be built in place of the jf-17. and they will complement/replace the f16's.

those who are talking about su-35's or gripen's or f-18's are simply fanboys/girls and need think straight

How true are the rumors that US is offering local production of F16s for the nuclear deal? If true then going for additional 150 F16s makes most sense.
F 16 is a good plane but is it that good I do not know, did not hear this offer story first time hearing

.
Su035 just a rumored deal

J-31 is far away no prototype of J-31 2.0 is out yet just few old J-31 prototypes
TAI TFX is in design phase

J-11D and J-10C would be a nice addition for both PAF and Navy
but i don't know what PAF is thinking right now
and doubt that Chinese will sell J-16 to Pakistan or Even J-20

8 new F-16 are coming which type not known yet...IF Congress approve the deal of 8 F-16....

But real question is who's gonna pay for 150 jets
150 old jets will be replaced by JF-17

Pakistan is waiting for the J-11D to mature up. Its a newer platform (specially the AESA) and the PL-15 LRBVR is still not as mature, in terms of being operational. The next logical step is obviously the J-31.

In between, Pakistan will get more -16's used, with lower flying miles. The discussions have been happening. With NS addressing the Think Tanks in the US, and the President, in a democratic, civil way, the anxiety inside the US administration should calm down (beauty of the democracy to get what you need through negotiations and mutual agreements).

Pakistan might also want to get some J-10C. With her growing economy and ambitions, she can sustain multiple platforms. Although , the JFT block III should be designed with more advanced air-frame (borrowing from the J-10C??).

False news, there is no deal about local production.
There is no compromise on Nuclear weapon.

PAF is not getting the SU35.....whoever thinks otherwise is living in cloud cuckoo land..unless pak can dangle 15-20 billion in hard cash for defence deals with ruskies otherwise why would the Russians risk losing the Indian market.

.
The J-11D is not for export.

It has been explained thousands of times and yet people can't comprehend that simple fact. The J-11B/D/15/16 use a Russian-derived airframe, so as per China's agreement with Moscow, they won't be up for grabs (despite having completely Chinese subsystems and weapons).

There is no doubt that F16 is very capable plane. Rumor is that it is a part of the comprehensive deal being negotiated.

. . .
150 was the minimum commitment for jf17 and firm order maximum order can go up to 275 which covers all f7s mirages and a5s

.
I might be wrong but SU-35 is off the shelf for Pakistan, as India & Russia have signed a deal to co DEVELOP su-35 STEALTH 5th Gen version, so Pakistan won't get Su-35 now.
Regarding J-31 still many improvements & testings needed but yes would be potent replacement.
J-10 deal is off as well, PAF has ordered 18 F-16s block 52+ from U.S. 8 will be delivered soon, other 10 will be in 2016. Because J-10 & F-16 were same in capabilities & Price more or less so Pakistan went with F-16s which we already have about 76 to keep the costs & maintenance, training costs lower.
regarding JF-17 Pakistan should look for 200 of them rather than 150, Block IV should be developed as well 4.5++ configurations like MIG-35

PAF should try to gain funds from privatization or may be from ME too. To buy:
32+ F-16s Block-52
50 EF-2000
50 Rafaels
50 Grippen NG

J10C will be equipped with more advanced radar equipment, the radar range will be greater than the previous J10 variants radar detection range and the ability to simultaneously track 12 targets. Its cockpit will be set up with more advanced domestic diffraction HUD. In addition J10C will be equipped with more advanced PL-13 remote air to air missiles. The installation of a laser-guided pod and also will have the ability to launch a variety of laser-guided bombs, to further improve the precision strike capability against ground targets.

J-10C made its maiden flight on 24 DEC 2013.

Rumor are it could be a Twin Engine Fighter.

Not J-10C may be J-12 or J-13.

PAF with:
150 JF-17s
050 F-16 Block-52s
050 Grippen NG
050 Rafaels
050 EF-2000s
120 used F-16s (31PAF+28US+16Jordan+45Jordan)

Can easily achieve its goals of protecting Pakistan against India and attacking inside Afghanistan easily.

ME can easily support PAF For;
50 Grippen NG
50 Rafaels
50 EF-2000s

well PAF will only keep at maximum 4 types of Jets, more Types means more various spare parts, maintenance issues, training, refurbishing, upgrades more types of training Jets required etc, so less types = always better, F-16s, JF-17s, J-31 & 1 More type, whichever PAF will select of available options.
