Yes, Mongol are brutal and that is why Mongol yuan dynasty is the most short lived Chinese dynasty. Less than a hundred years excluding another short lived but also brutal dynasty, Qin.

The true Great Wall was only completed during Ming dynasty. Shan hai guan is the impenetrable wall completed by Ming. Even the Manchu can't breach it when Ming at their weakest time. They only managed to pass it when wu San Gui open the pass gate for them to enter.

The mongols took over other countries and gathered large amount of manpower, weaponry before conquering southern Song. I don't remember the intricate details. Ask @Grand Historian

The song dynasty despite being a very technology innovative dynasty was ruled by terrible emperors.
